Can anyone advise which is the best position on a dogs neck for an Innotek SD-100. Back of the neck, side or front. High on the neck or low for most consistant use. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
Always high and tight. If it is low, when the dog stretches his neck to sniff the ground the contacts may not be touching the dog and thus the collar doesn't work. Loose collars slip around too much.
I use it high on the neck. If Im working on something specific I will spin it around ,like for long downs or down in motion I would have it on top, for long sits or sit in motions I would have it underneath.
Stop making excuses for your dog and start training it!
When fitting the Ecollar on the dog it must as high on his neck as it can go, just beneath his jaw. The strap must also go very high, just behind the dog’s ears. A dog’s neck tapers as it joins to his shoulders, that is, it gets bigger. If the Ecollar is put on too loosely it will fit further down on his neck. If this is done, when the dog puts his head down as when sniffing the ground, the Ecollar will move towards the dog’s head, loosening and the contact points won’t make good contact with the skin of the dog’s neck. Arcing may occur and this greatly raises the discomfort level of the stimulation and should be avoided, as it’s not repeatable.
The strap must be snug on the dog’s neck. If the dog starts to wheeze, the strap is pulled too tightly. SNUG is the operative word. If the dog shakes his head (such as when shaking off water) and the box containing the electronic parts moves to a different position on his neck, it’s too loose. If you can easily grasp the box and move it to another location, it’s too loose. But even if the Ecollar is put on snugly, if it’s too low on the dog’s neck, it will slide up and loosen when the dog lowers his head to the ground.
After putting the Ecollar on the dog there’s one last thing to be done. Grasp the box and gently press it into the dog’s neck, wiggling it back and forth a little bit, as you do. Think of using the contact points to part the dog’s hair and get it to sit directly against his skin.

You may have already tried this - but just in case you didn't - The Innotek collar comes with a test light to see if collar is funtioning properly - I have an Innotek ADV1000 and I am on my third collar - It does not give consistant stimulations. I would be working with my dog and give her a correction and no reaction what so ever - then try it again - no reaction again - so I increased to the next stimulation level - still no reaction - Now with leaving on that same setting where I would get no reaction - I buzzed it again and she yelped and nearly jumped out of her skin. - Now this isn't just my novice attempt - I take her to National K9 where we are working on off leash training - And at our training session this inconsistancy was taking place and the trainer checked the unit and found it to be spiking - and sometimes you would get nothing. - Like I said this is the 3rd unit I have had this problem with. So if you haven't checked yours our you may want to.
Oh I fogot to tell you that when testing it with the test light - sometimes you would get nothing and sometimes it would light dimly and other times light brightly. This in with pressing the momentary button on transmitter several times continuously - kept getting different responses on the same level setting.
