Yesterday I purchased a Tritronics Sport 60.
I was hoping someone could tell me if they have had any success with this e-collar. I have 30 days in which I can return it for a refund if this is not a good collar.
I previously had an Innotek ADV1000 and had nothing but problems with it - I went through 3 collars in 2 months time and had problems with all three - in that it was not consistant with it's stimulations at all! Sometimes my dog would have no reaction at, all and with unit still on the same level it would spike and she would yelp like she just got stung by a hornet.
I was scheduled for another training session, and a local place sells the Tritronic line (which was one that had been recommended to me).
I take my dog to National K9 for training sessions and we were starting off leash training.
The main thing I am wondering about is that it only has 6 levels of correction -
I was hoping that someone that has used this particular collar could let me know if this is an adequate amount of corrections levels.
The Innotek had 15 levels - but with them being so unstable I didn't want to use the collar. My only hopes are I can return the collar for a refund - I have exchanged it 3 times now and found each one to have the same problem.
It's past the 30 days and I'm getting some static about a cash refund. But I just don't trust the collar and don't want to take the chance of damaging my dog.
I was really hoping someone could let me know if I made a wise purchase in buying the Tritronics Sport 60. While I still have time to return it.
Thanks Sharon
99% of our civilian clients who do e-collar training here buy the Sport 50. They don't really have need for the tone so why spend the extra $20.
We also have several LEOs who use the Sport 60 on their PSDs (some mandate e-collars while working) and have never had a problem with them.
In the years I've had TT equipment I've never had a problem or had to send anything back. My Pro 100 antenna right at the base where it screws in used to get REALLY hot. When I had it on a duty belt I used to get almost a burnt. I called TT and they sent me a new insulated antenna free of charge.
As to your levels, I've next to never needed any more levels than most of the Sport series collars. If done correctly and started correctly you will have no need for the higher levels.
The problem I have with this unit is the limited number of levels. This usually isn't a problem with "collar literate" dogs; but for dogs that are just getting started with the Ecollar you may find that one level is too low for the dog to feel and the next level is too high for him.
That unit also feels cheap in my hand and uses a 9volt battery that you should replace every six months, whether it's worn out or not.
Also, whatever you do, DON'T GET IT WET! It goes on and the timer that's supposed to shut off the stim in the event of a breakdown doesn't work.
I think the Dogtra 1100NC is a far better unit and it's a few bucks cheaper. (My prices that is).
Lou Castle has been kicked off this board. He is an OLD SCHOOL DOG TRAINER with little to offer.

Not exactly sure what you mean ??
Do you mean don't get the transmitter wet ?
Or not to let the dog wear the receiver in the water?
The stimulation doesn't stop - that would be dangerous !
I was wondering which part of the unit not to get wet ?
The receiver says it's waterproof and the transmitter is water resistant -
Is this not the case ?
I was told to be sure when using while dog is wet - to take into account that it is more conductive and to use a lower stimulation level.
I have 100 acres out in the county / with pond, woods etc. - And was hoping this could be used with dog when she was wet. She loves to swim.
In fact the person that told me about this unit told me that it could be used while she was in the water. I sure don't want to give it a try and harm her if this collar is not reliable in water.
I was hoping you could let me know which one not to get wet.
Thanks So Much For Your Help
Sharon
Lou was referring to the transmitter not the collar. The collar is really waterproof. I've had numerous dogs swim in them and never have a problem.
Although I've not gone swimming with my transmitter,(my pro 100) we have used the sport 50's and 60's in the rain and never had a problem as well. I think Lou is correct about not submerging it as it is not "waterproof."
I hope TT will change this in the future as I do really like their products.
I have not tried the Dogtra collars as I didn't like the way the knob moved so easily as a gradual increase. I felt it was too easy to bump and move. Lou has told me this was fixed and it does not move that easily anymore. I also wonder if some handlers (both civilian and LEO) can handle not knowing where they are on the dial. It's easier for some to know the "number" and keep it at that.
I'm not against the Dogtra collars. If I had one to play with and test out I might even convert over from the things both Lou and Donn Yarnall say about them. I'm just not ready to drop $400 or so $ to find out I don't like it..LOL
If anyone from Dogtra is reading I'd be happy to take one for a test drive....we'll be happy to have people buying Dogtras and not TT if I like it better and it holds up....yes shameless attempt at free stuff, but hey ya never know.. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
The transmitter on the Dogtra 1100 NC is also only water resistant. The dial does tend to move if you are taking the transmitter in and out of a pocket a lot though.
I lost my Dogtra transmitter in FL in a parking lot where we had the January seminar. It was there for a month before anyone found it. It did get wet in that time I am sure (and from the looks of one of the corners it may have been run over, it is a tiny bit white looking, but no cracks) but it works fine. The Dial stop has a tiny bit of rust from its time outside, but I have not had any problem with it or the collar.
Most of my clients use the Sport 50.. I do most of the intro training with my Pro 100(because it is more flexible).. then switch the dogs over to the Sport.. All my clients love the collar..
