Hey everyone, Ambi continues to do really well with her desensitizing, and BAT training I've been using a halti on her and she is getting a tiny bit of a rub on her nose from it, its a size 3, she should probably be in a size 2 (as soon as they reorder I'll re-size) but is this typical for a halti, to get rubs? I was thinking of trying moleskin but don't know if it would stay. Anyone have any suggestions.
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
No, it doesn't seem to bother her, rubbed a tiny bit of hair off which has grown back-I use it because although she is a ton better with her reactivity I can control her body position more easily.

Hi Jenny, nice to meet you. What do we have in common?
If I may...
Steve was referring to the halti, which Jenny discussed in the thread that Steve linked. Most working/sport dog trainers (which Steve is) are not big fans of the halti.
Another of his attempts at humor!

If your current training plan is working, and the collar is not bothering the dog, I certainly wouldn't change anything, or fret about a little missing hair. If it ain't broke...

Hi Jodi,
We also have reactive dogs and BAT in common. I got a lesson in corrections on the other thread, and it has been helping immensely, along with everything else.
I wanted to ask, how much time is Amber wearing the halti? Is it only for walks? Or other times as well? I use the halti on Jethro for pretty much every single walk and he isn't showing any signs of wear : )
I have a friend who uses the halti and has for a couple years, despite my trying to convince him otherwise,
his dog has permanent hair loss around the nose area.
The tool depend on the handler/dog combo. Some dog have more delicate skin.
When I got Harley from the SPCA he was rub bad on the nose and arm pit from a halti and harness. On the other hand Harley as a nice collection of staples from running into trees, branches and what not, so he hasa kevlar vest to protect his skin
