Was in Southlake,TX earlier today and made a pitstop with the girlfriend to get some food for her dog at petsmart. They have a daycare now...I was pretty baffled at how they thought this was a good idea. I only got a bit on video, but there was some serious stuff going on in there that would make you cringe. There is a lady that just hangs out in there, mopping up urine most of the time because the dogs are so freaked out.
I think most of us on the board don't have pet quality dogs and would consider this crazy; however, I do have/had "normal" dogs, not that I ever do/did day care or dog parks with them, but I think most people look at this situation no differently than leaving your child at school or a daycare. They also would rather have other people train/socialize their dog, they also think their dog enjoys this socialization...so for me, I don't get it but I guess it's better for the dog than sitting at home day after day, as long as the dog doesn't have any issues that he could hurt another dog.
I know my dog would look at this situation as Roman times and act accordingly - as a Gladiator
JMO, but there is too big a risk of my dog developing problems in this situation. I'm not going to trust all of those other dogs just because their owners do. I'm not going to trust the supervisor of the daycare just because his boss does. And I'm not going to trust my dog to consistently react in the perfect way when I'm not there, day after day. How would you know if your dog was fearful and stressed after you left?
I would rather my dog was in a crate most of the day, and let out by a trusted neighbor, family friend, or dog walker that I could train to act appropriately with my dog.
Again, JMHO, and your mileage may certainly vary.
And definitely not the place for a dog like Enzo or Logan LOL
I used to work for a doggy daycare (not with the dogs, did office work) and took my dogs in because I trusted the workers and they listened to me when I told them what to do/not do with my dogs.
Then I moved to New Orleans and tried to take Shelby to doggy daycare, and it was a disaster. I saw how upset she was on the webcam, and I immediately went to pick her up. Even the groomer was a disaster. I had to take my dog pack twice to get the cut done right. Lesson? I'm never taking my dogs to a daycare where I don't know anyone and have zero control over what's really going on with my dogs.
