I came aross this breeder/trainer in my search for a new addition....... they met my criteria as far as driving distance and having or belonging to a Schutzhund club, but then I saw they have 12 week old pups fully trained in obedience.
Really? a 30 min distracted down stay on a 12 week old pup?
Am I being too skeptical here?

I know a trainer in my area who claims to be able to do a 30min down stay with 12 week olds.
I wonder if they will do it for another owner, and will they still do it as they grow through their "phases"?
Well I amend, I think you can teach a puppy "come" "sit" "stay" and "down" but that would be just teaching the behaviors to a command, I wouldnt consider that "trained" until the dog had gone through proofing and was 100%.
But I imagine they have a looser definition of "trained".
Puppies are meant to be puppies. Expecting them to do something even an adult dog may have trouble with is just cruel, in my opinion. It's like insisting a 2 year old to be able to do long division.
agreed samantha . . . sure you could put a puppy on a 30 min downstay , but why would you want to ?
if the guy has enough time and patience to endure the process , that doesn't overly impress me , but what i'd suggest is how much more productive training could have been done with that time .

After reviewing the website, that's exactly what's going on here; This firm is providing enough basic obedience to make these pups appealing to the novice dog owner who is intimidated by having to do all of the work themself. Any experienced dog owner/handler/trainer will see right through this and know that the pup will need finishing and proofing, and the firm realizes this. I don't recall seeing anything on the site refuting this.
Some things must be taken with consideration; if I were buying a two-year-old SchH1 Mal from Cindy Rhodes, I would still plan on having some finishing work to do myself, and ANY trained dog will have to be proofed by a new handler. (Not to say that a well-trained dog can't be handled by any good handler; I just wouldn't assume so based on a breeder's statement.)
