One of the pre-procedure things I have done for a long time is to make sure a new sticky note is put on the front of each dog's chart (file) that says "no vax" as a reminder that there's a sheet of special vaccine instructions inside. I do this because the dogs will be out of my sight, staying at the vet's office for a while, as opposed to being with me in an exam room. (The instructions are to the effect that my dogs get no vax, ever, without written permission from me for every time.)
Anyway, they told me that they were implementing a new procedure for this kind of thing: Their files will now be red folders instead of manila. Red folders mean "look for special instructions before you do anything."
Wow, two at once? My hand is cramping up at the thought of writing a check like that. As many time as I've read it online, I've never had a vet do anything without checking with me first. It must be reasonably common with as often as I've read these types of threads, but I havent had a vet do anything, even in an ER without asking me.

Both seniors, too, so we do the senior blood workup. (These are the two flat-face dogs; I make really sure about general anesthesia for them. Well, I do anyway.)
My hand has cramped for weeks over it. I've been overpaying the vet a bit every time I picked up the monthly med for one and the Heartguard, etc. Then I scheduled the regular blood check for the one on an NSAID so it could serve double duty for the NSAID monitoring and the pre-anesthesia.
It's still making a major budget dent! There might be extra use of cooked eggs to replace some of the muscle meat in their diets for a while.
Have you ever tried anesthesia free - CanineCare? Before raw I never had the vet do it, I always used CC. I was really pleased with their service and my dogs were to.

I'm glad that worked out for you.
But after some heavy-duty research, I have to give two thumbs-down to it. This is JMO, of course.
I wanted to find that it was a good option, believe me, when I first started looking (this was years ago, when general anesthesia for dogs was MUCH scarier than it is now). I really really wanted to go that route.
But I read a step-by-step description of a "real" dental work-up (and then years later watched a video of one) and I saw how much of it was doable without general anesthesia ..... not much.
But what convinced me, really, more than the extremely bad reviews by vets who were, after all, in the business of providing much more expensive dentals, were the details of a work-up under anesthesia and my common sense telling me how many of the important parts would be impossible without anesthesia.

I went out for yogurt and eggs for Monday night.
The first thing Oliver did after his last dental a couple of years ago was stagger to the fridge and try to open it. lol Apparently, no-food-after-midnight the night before way trumped any post-procedure mouth sensitivity.
Frankly, I wish I could have general anaesthesia myself for dental work.
I agree! I'm completely guilty of waiting until I am writhing in pain on the ground before I make a dental appointment. I'd much prefer to have a few more children pain-killer free than to sit in a dentist's chair.
