She turned back toward me just before I got her back feet over her head, but when I started lifting, the fight was gone. I was then able to secure her and make the other dog retreat. The most important thing I did was to stay calm. That fight was initiated by Sadie when my neighbor's airhead wife brought her dog into my yard to "meet" Sadie (as I bolted from the garage shouting warnings; she claimed they hadn't been "properly introduced" and figured Sadie would "cut her a break because Lady is so old"). If my dog gets attacked and I fear for her life or health, I will definitely shoot the offender(s). If I don't have my pistol on me, I'm beating them to death with my blackjack; no second thought or mercy. The key is to never be unprepared. Sadie

In another forum I belong to, the lady was out walking her Standard Poodle when a PB attacked the dog. The lady succeeded in shielding it mostly with her body, with the PB trying desperately to kill it, and the Poodle screaming like crazy. Luckily she didn't suffer any bites in the process but her Poodle was gripped and skin was torn on his hip, resulting in stitches and a drain. The Poodle was NOT trying to fight back and the PB was trying to KILL. What is the best thing to do in that situation? If this has already been discussed, can someone direct me to the post or webcast here? Do you know how the Poodle owner finally got her dog to safety? Did the PB's owner come?

The owner of the PB showed up as well as a couple of other ppl to help. Luckily the PB was NOT HA, only DA, as he never bit any ppl. . The PB owner took full responsibility & is paying for the vet bills. The Poodle went home the next day & will be fine--physically. BOGIE Aussie/Heeler Cross

I sent Ryuk up a tree (something he knows how to do and we do it all the time in training from fun) and broke the attacking dogs ribs kicking it down as it went for him. Even injured it never stopped but luckily in the initial attack it latched on the embarrassingly thick and wide reflective collar I used to have Ryuk in out walking. Thick nylon reflective collar destroyed, my dog's neck was just bruised from the shaking... not exactly what I'd recommend though...however it was quite effective.... https://www.etsy.com/shop/Blitzava

I also had a bad experience, walk with pepper spray and a length of wrapped pipe which hangs by velcro from my fanny pack waist strap for quick release.

Jodi Moen Webboard User Reg: 12-28-2010 Posts: 799 Loc: USA Offline	I would be careful with pepper spray, I've seen a rotti have absolutely no response to it (got it from about a foot away)and if the wind should suddenly blow in your face you could get a dose of it. We reverted to small Co2 fire extingushers for dogs who were absolutely attacking, never saw it fail-the dog would get a blast and turn tail and run. I would only use it in the event of an imminent attack though. My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
