Early this morning my family and I lost Enoch, our 4 year old male GSD.
About a month ago one evening Enoch quickly became very lethargic seemingly out of the blue. He was drinking copious amounts of water. We watched him that night and the next day he was completely fine. We thought something must have upset his stomach. Two weeks later the exact same thing happened. We called the emergency vet and she thought it could be bloat and we felt his stomach and noticed nothing. We waited the next morning and took him to our regular vet. She did blood work and a urinalysis. She found nothing in his blood work and said he was in good health. She did say his urine was concentrated and that she thought maybe he was getting dehydrated. We put water in with his meal (he eats raw.) Tonight the same thing happened. Since she had given him a clear bill of health we thought it was a simple case of dehydration. But still we were going to take him in the next morning because something didn't feel right with us. I checked on him before I went to bed around 1:15 in the morning and around 2 in the morning my brother checked on him and found him dead. We are completely heartbroken and confused. We are getting a necropsy done on him to find out what happened. We are really at a loss for words.
I want to thank this forum because of this forum and Leerburg Enoch was a well trained joyful dog. We learn about feeding him raw here. You guys were fantastic. My family thanks you.
I'm very sorry for your loss. Words can't really help ease the pain. I'm sure he led a happy life in the time that he was here and it sounds like he was extremely well cared for.
So sad to hear about your dear friend passing - take some consolation in the fact that he lived 4 years on this earth with people who truly loved him and only wanted the best for him - some dogs would trade up a far longer life for that kind of love.
So very sorry for the loss of your boy, it must have been awful for you all to lose him without a definitive explanation, nothing can ease the pain, but hopefully the necropsy can at least give you a reason to enable you to have some closure.
Maisha, I am so very sorry for your and your family's loss.
It is never easy saying good bye, and harder yet because it was so unexpected.
I hope you will find comfort in all your special memories of Enoch, in the light of such sorrow.
My thoughts are with you.
