Oh Sheila, we've been skunked 3 times this year. Bob said he's going to build a trap, a live trap but he said if he sees it out there and happens to have a .22 handy, it just may be on the receiving end of bullet.
It cannot be healthy to live with that stench for three days. This one always gets a dog and the porch.
Chucky got it last Friday. I emailed his owner and he said "Chuck who?". Yeah, just wait till he gets back.
Gosh Sheila, I hope it isn't so. I've bathed and bathed him and still he has a burnt rubber smell.
I sure hope Thor didn't get nailed.

I've used this recipe with pretty good success. Added bonus is that it's normally stuff you have in the house.
Years ago a woman went to let her dog in and first thing that ran through the door was a skunk quickly followed by her dog. Not sure how much the skunk was able to spray in the house but he did enough damage that they were actually weeks in a hotel while the insurance company had the house deskunked. If I remember correctly she said even stuff in closets couldn't be saved, it was that bad............ Guess the good news is while not a common claim it is covered under homeowners....

My very laid back Dexter brought a live skunk in the barn.
He got bath twice with Betty formula.
The barn had a bad smell for a while, the horses were not or did not seem to mind but the owners/ridres were not so happy.

What a nighmare! I am so sorry. We have loads of skunks wandering around our neighborhood so it's just a matter of time before we have the same experience. I pray it never happens.
While we've been spared so far, I can at least vouch, from our neighbor's experience, that the receipe Betty suggested works well.
Good luck.

Betty's recipe works incredibly well.
Tucker got sprayed pretty heavily a couple years ago.
And that concoction worked a miracle, i was even able to bring him back into the house the same night he got sprayed.

Yeah, I use that recipe now too, did him twice and it works better than anything we've tried in the past. Only been skunked a couple of times in all the years owning dogs previously and 3 times this year.
There must be a family running around, other dogs are getting it too. People are spotting them in the culverts. This one is spraying from our driveway, outside the fence. And much like Sheila, always at night, we just let them out for a quick pee, a couple of alert barks and then the smell.
And for some reason, on Chucky, there's a hint of a lingering odor, it was quite noticeable when we went swimming the other day.
The porch and odor that wafts in through the open windows leaves in about 3 days. But OMG it's bad for those few days. Never thought about a hotel room but that sure would be a great alternative to living in that. It just got me washing walls this time. I'll take pine sol and bleach any day over that.
We're usually quite tolerant of these things but this third time has Bob out for blood, well talking that way anyway. It's a horrible, horrible stench to put up with.
How's it going Sheila? Was Thor spared or did you have a late night bathing?

As far as a lingering odor; I was once lucky enough to be skunked with Thor......for about 6 months every time it rained the odor would waft from my hair. The smell ceased to bother me but it was humorous to watch my passengers sniffing around searching for the offending odor as I boarded them on their flight. I can't say my co-workers were quite as amused.
CJ put away the Pine Sol and boil up some rosemary on your stove. What an unbelievable job it does in getting rid of the stench in the house.

Really? We're relatively pepe le pew odor free right now (or we're just getting immune to it), but I will certainly remember that for next time, that there IS NOT going to be.
And that's too funny about your hair. Six month hey. Chucky's dad is due back in about six weeks. Maybe he's got some weird chemical make up that'll keep him lingering that long too.
I'll have to mention how wonderful the walks in the rain are with his special boy.
Thanks for the tips.
