My Dog Terra gets very excited over everything. When she is excited she barks. She barks when I send her to her crate, when my husband comes home as she goes to her crate (repeated fast excited barking). When I train her she barks when I ask her to do anything. This is very distracting. I have taught her "enough" and she immediately obeys it, for about 1-2 seconds, they she can't contain herself and begins again. I would like to stop this. I have tried in the past when she is going to her mat (along with the other dogs) to give a treat to the pups as soon as they get to their mat. They love this and run quickly to their mat...but it doesn't stop Terra from barking, she has even chocked when eating a treat because she tries to bark and eat the treat at the same time.
Any suggestions? she is a terrier/wired hair terrier mix, about 3-4 years old ( a rescue so not sure of age) She is a very soft dog, and extremely intelligent, eager to learn and very, very high drive.
I would like to stop her barking because it sets Cody off and is very loud and bothersome. Once the event that gets her barking is over, she is quiet.
Thanks in advance. I will remind everyone that she is on prednizone, but she has always had this problem. Next month we will begin weaning her off prednizone. She is on it for a blood disorder she had. That we hope has been taken care of through this therapy. We are not sure what trigged this blood disorder, she immune system attacked itself. if you can teach her to speak ( when YOU want it ) , then you can teach her to be quiet .

might take a while , and definitely something you do without the other dogs around .

sounds like you've started with " enough " , mark and reward that , then work on duration .

i've just started " speak " with henry , but every session is " speak " followed by " quiet dog " . . .

I had to make thing less exciting forHarley.

He does speak and stop on command but he has that crazy happy excited bark. My only cure for now is to SLOW DOWN some.

I use not so high value reward or I do every thing slow (move speak) Also getting a bit tired first can help. For him it is 30min of bike or fetch to take the edge off.

Terra has been taught to speak and to "enough" be quite. However, its when anything exciting happens. She performs all her behaviors quickly, like lightning which I love, she just barks through all of them. I don't want to quish her enthusiasm but would love to have the barking stopped, it is so loud!

She does not whine during training, only loud barking.
When she barks I do not reward. This usually leads to more barking at first. Then she starts to realize she shouldn't bark and stops, for a very short time.
She is a very smart dog and loves to work. She is very excited about working and as she barks she moves her body back and forth a tiny bit out of excitement.

SHe just does not quit barking through the whole thing. It is very annoying. Does anyone else had or have this problem with their dogs?
