I am fairly new to e-collars so I am looking for your advice to see if i am using it corretly.
My main use right now is when we go to an area where i can let him run and i want to let him off lead. I know, it's not recommeded to let a dog this young off lead and i havent, i use a long tracking line but as he has been getting older and faster it sometimes get tangled in his legs. Concerned that he would break a leg i got the e-collar so it could let him run free.
Now to my use: I have the e-collar and a flat leather collar on. We start from the truck on a heal, after a short amount of time i stop, wait and break him. He is allowed to run and play as i walk. When i want him to stop so i can attach the lead i give the Wait command, if he does not stop immediately i give a constant corretion until he stops and waits right there. I have practiced corretion levels and learned that the 10 to 15 range is more than enough to get his attention without a yelp. So far things seem to be working pretty good, he waits most of the time, sometimes with a little movement forward but stops with the corrrection.
This seems to be working well, i just want some confirmation that i am doing it right. Any comments are welcome.
