Well, thanksgiving is over and now back to basics. Took Cody man out for a walk today around some construction site. He did well. It was hotter than I thought so we did not stay out as long as I was going to. We did some heeling, and some over (jumping over the legs of some big wooden barriers at the construction area near a field.) come home, had fun running to mat and and through (jumping through small hula hoop) We did also do some "place" work. He is doing much better.
Then tonight I took Bindi out. We worked on turns, heeling, circles, back, front and finish. Then we took off for a regular walk. She did very well. Going to take her tomorrow to an agility match for socialization in crowds and dogs. Hoping she will do well. DIdn't have time to take Terra out. Tomorrow I will work with her.
How is it going with what you guys are working on?

Yesterday I had 40 tonnes of sand delivered. Harley is happy to be near a big 12 wheeler but as trouble focusing, so we practice focus heel right next to the truck as I had to show the driver where to dump my sand.
Harley got a "tonne" of treats but was good about heeling next to the moving truck.
When I had to paid the driver Harley came to sit in position just by the truck.
We also did more difficult hide in nosework but he does not seem to find my difficult hides hard to get. I had one in the bath room about 5' from the door and the door was shut close and he wanted to rip the door off and barked at it pretty bad then gave up and down for his reward.

Sasha and I went to the Clairville Conseration Area for a walk with her buddy Jesse. We've been doing alot of work lately trying to get ready for the Rally trial last week, so I decided to give her a break for a week and we've just been playing and going for walks. Lots of "find it" games in the house.
I find my girl works better if she gets a break every once in awhile. Monday it will be back to training. Still trying to perfect the left pivot and the right sidestep. I've added a "stop - back 3 steps". This is one of the advance moves in Rally but hey why not start working on it now. I'll just be asking her for just one step or two steps to start.

Excellent training session this morning, in a venue we haven't been to in a few months. Went to the field where we first learned to track.
Tracked an easy track, three legs of 50 paces, randomly baited, three articles. Tracking was solid and true, but a little fast when the bait was farther apart. Position on indications was good, though holding it was a little tense for her. She blew the first super easy turn (wide sweep, double trenched, bait before and after), but nailed the second turn, which was a normal 90deg turn.
After tracking I let her run and did three long-distance whistle recalls. We did a long ball retrieve, and then we worked on going from one touch pad to another. We finished up with three very solid 10 meter dumbbell retrieves, complete with solid holds and outs. She came back in much more directly than she had at the club Wed night.

from Sharon:
Today I took Bindi to her first Rally O class. I need lots of work on those signs.! Bindi was wonderful! She has awesome engagement and her heel was wonderful. Any mistakes made were mine as I stumbled along trying to figure what to do on each sign. Have a good instructor who walked it through with me. Gave me tips.
She did turns well, pivots well, waits great. Taught Bindi to put her muzzle into my palm, her chin in my palm. call it "chin". This gives her something to do while she is waiting for her turn on the course. I also do Mat back and forth, on and off. But need to develop more games to do with her so she doesn't get bored.
Tonight Bindi and I not going to train, she is pretty tired, it was quite an adventure on her first day.
I will be working with Cody, and Terra in a few minutes. Terra on her heel as we go for a walk at 6:00. Cody, on all his behaviors and just want to enjoy all of them. In the morning Cody and I will go to Petsmart and walk around working on his fears, and then go for a walk. Bindi will have a walk later that night and we will train at the parking lot. Will be working on turns and moving down, wait down and walk around, and some games to play. Sunday she still has a couple of classes at her other trainer before we are done. Not sure what we will do there.
Terra has a wonderful heel when she realizes what she is supposed to do. Sometimes she gets so excited she gets side tracked, but corrects herself pretty quickly when she realizes she is not pleasing me. Will work on heel, wait, sit, down, touch, tonight as we take our walk.
Well that is it for tonight. I am so very grateful for Leerburg and all the things I have learned here at this sight. I thank them for their videos that really have helped me see the training in action. The Lord has used them to bless my understanding of dog training.
Thanks so much
Sharon and Bindi, Cody, Terra

More dumbbell work. The retrieves are good, so we only do a few reps each time. This is one behavior that she now has a lot of drive for, so I want to curb her enthusiasm. She is more solid and true, and it makes a prettier picture when she stays calm.
We've been working the holding behavior separately. It is slower and more precise, so I'm taking my time. Sadie's understanding of it is improving. I move my hands around her head while she's holding it, and she's getting better at holding it and focusing on my eyes.
She has also begun to hold it when I try to take it from her. Just a few days ago, she dropped it as soon as I touched it.She is waiting for the "out", so it's kinda stressful for her, but she is holding out for the mark. She's learning the game.
We also worked on her stand, which is not good but has improved over the past week.

tonight bindi and I went for an hour walk. We then came home and went through some rally cards and did the behaviors on them. We worked on the front and finishes and the position of heel. Tonight she was a little out of position. But we did correct it. Bindi did really well on her walk, she keep in heel position and just walked along with us. After training tonight we played tug for awhile. SHe is learning to play, which I am grateful for. She didn't play much as a puppy and being a rescue she was too fearful for a long time to let any human play with her.
Worked with Cody too. We warmed up with a game of mat and mark and then practiced getting into heel position. We heeled around the room for awhile. Then we worked on pivots and heeling.
I spent some time clicker training Cody and beginning to catch and shape the behavior of Cody placing his chin in the palm of my hand. so far tonight he touched his chin to my fingertips. Not a bad start. We also worked on "leave it". I placed pieces of turkey on the floor for a review of leave it. He gets the treat when he looks at me. I do not let him pick up the piece on his own because I do not want him to think he can eat treats off the floor. He did really well. As soon as I put the treat on the floor, he turned his face toward me and looked me in the eyes. He immediately receives his treat. He is a great little dog. Today we did not work on his fear
issues.
Nothing for Terra tonight.
