90 lbs. male Cane Corso, 16 months old, fixed, no known health problems.
Diarrhea started 17 MAR, 6pm with 3 bouts. No blood, no mucous, no noticeable change in odor. Soft stools at normal poop times including last night before bed.
Started vomiting at 6am EST, 3 times so far.
No harsh smell, liquid is food colored with small bits of white plastic in it, as well as small food particles.
Last meal was 7am yesterday. Food is Blue Buffalo Lamb and Brown Rice for Adults (3 cups). No change in diet since we got him last summer. Stools are typically firm. Dog eats nothing but kibble and turkey used for treats. Water intake is normal.
Small chunk of Nylabone is missing. The missing piece is
2"x3"x1" in size, and is very rough with chew marks. (I know we should have trashed it when it got that small)
All vitals are normal. Dog is not lethargic. No sensitivity to palpation of abdomen. Dog is actively seeking his breakfast, and is drinking normally this morning.
Pam is still looking for the chunk of Nylabone, but has a feeling like he swallowed it. &#@$(!@@$&#$%!!!!!
I'm not at home, but have phone contact with her. She has previously worked at vet clinics for years. We're trying to get him in ASAP for an X-Ray, but it's not looking good for this morning. I thought I would hop on here and see if anyone had any advice. The nearest E-Vet is almost 2 hours away, and Pam has the granddaughter this morning.
Well, the diarrhea doesn't really fit with foreign body - that "should" be more vomiting/not eating, & lethargy. Can you identify what the "white plastic" is/was? Maybe it contained the offender.
Those little shaved off looking pieces from Nylabones can cause some vommiting David, but if you're missing a solid, 3" piece? You better get an xray soon. I don't know about him being able to pass that.
Thanks Steve. I was thinking that too. He's a pretty good sized dog, but last I saw that piece, I know I wouldn't want it anywhere near my exit.
I'm concerned that it's lodged in his pyloric valve.
Pam is taking him to the vet this afternoon. He's still acting fine, jumping around like a goof (normal), and bugging for his breakfast, so I don't think he's critical as of right now.
