My girlfriend was watching Carlin while I was at work today, and she sent me this video of bored Carlin throwing a hissy fit. Then he barks at her when she laughs.
We try to ignore this behavior, but its really too funny to ignore 100% of the time, so it hasn't gone extinct yet... oh well.
Looks like he needs lots of walks or some activity to wind him down.
He definitely seems to have something on his mind the way he walks around the place.
How would he react if you just told him to be quiet?
Laughing surely feeds into it.
Owning a high-drive bratty ACD has been a good test of my training skills.
I have to stay on him and remain consistent with both the rewards and the corrections, I think that just having hyper GSDs made me lazy......
He looks like he's got lots of pent-up energy. I know how that goes. We just adopted an active two-year-old of another high-energy breed, so my husband and I are having to provide lots of exercise. The older ones were letting us get away with slacking off a bit, but not the new guy.
You guys are correct about the exercise, he only does this when he's bored/ has pent up energy. I've been loaded with work this week, so he hasn't been getting as much as he's used to, and I haven't been using his weight vest on walks due to the heat wave.
If I told him to be quiet he would, but he won't listen to anyone else.
This behavior used to be MUCH worse, as the huffing was full out barks.
LOL, my (extremely lazy) German Shepherd does the same thing when he needs to go outside to do his business. No pent up energy on his part...he's more like the three year old who waits until the last minute and really has to GO.
