When I looked for food rolls I wanted red barn because that is what is here and lots of good feedback on them. The company sent me two rolls to try. Now I am ready to order. I see that sucrose is Way near the top of the ingredient list. Is this a concern for anyone who uses them?
on the RB roll I currently have (beef) Sucrose is ingredient #7. numbers 8&9 are flaxseed and salt. So my bottom line is that it borders on the range of "junk food" for dogs and I would certainly not feed it as a complete diet. But it is still far superior to most commercial treats and, since my dogs love. it., I have no issue using it in my high value treat rotation.
I will NOT buy any dog food or treat that lists sucrose and I let the company know why. There's no reason for it to be added and it's getting increasingly hard to find a treat that doesn't.

Pretty much my POV.
I hate sugar in dog food/treats. I buy virtually all my marker rewards among the LB Zuke's Minis and the LB Soft Training Treats.
But yeah, I care more about the first 5 ingredients in a food and the first 3 in a treat. It's a lesser-of-two-evils thing for me. I won't buy a food or a treat that has corn or wheat as its main ingredient, and sadly, at least for treats, that's what I see in the stores. On top of that, they have China-sourced ingredients (or even the whole treat item).
An interesting note, I was recently at the pet store checking out the treats to see if I can find something new for the pack. Just about everything I picked up had some kind of sweetener in it- either sugar, maple syrup, or molasses. Even the "Natural" treats had sweetener in them.
Since when do dogs need their treats to be sweet? It's getting to the point where I am going to go back to making my own dog treats again.
