Its been a year now since my WGS was diagnosed with discoid lupus. It is quite the anoying disease rather than a serious one. Constant examination of her vulva, which we refer to as
"Tootie" seems to be the biggest headache. Trying to treat with
Rx's from my vet with a low profile on antibiotics. Looking at
her you would never know anything was wrong and you would have
to look closely to notice a slight lose of hair around her
bottom lip; Sprays are the easiest but less effective treatment
and she is so used to me saying Tootie Time, I warm up the
product as not to zap her private parts with something cold. It
is now tolerable to the point that I need no help from Hubby
to apply. Keeping her indoors in the airconditioning is also
a help. We still walk in the morning before 9. Have to watch out for skin rubbing too. Just a royal pain in the you know
where. But She's worth it. Please anyone out there in Doggie
Land be on the lookout and get informed on this disease.
Thanks for letting me vent.
I can’t imagine how depressing it must be to have to treat your girl so often for this condition, I think we all take our dogs for granted while they are in good health, then something like lupus comes along and it becomes woven into your daily life.
So sorry for you and your girl, I hope she is as comfortable as she can be, and send very best hopes for her and you, that things can go as well as can be hoped for in this situation.
Tracey: This disease did not attack her until she became
four and a half. Thank you for your kind words. All of us can
only keep on truckin. Best Regards
