not sure where to put this one.
pup bites end of tail. tried spraying bitter apple on it but he still gets at it. bites it until its red and raw.
do i need to keep one of those lamp shades on his head to keep him away from his damn nub.
this is sort of pissing me off here. just leave the freakin thing alone.
what does he need more things to chew on?
My dog used to chew his legs raw, and the vet suggested to put something like perfume or tobasco sauce or something that tastes really horrible on his legs. Bitter apple doesn't work all that well sometimes, especially if the dog is used to it.
Actually, I didn't need to put anything weird on his legs. He has skin/allergy problems and he was just itchy all the time, so I began putting aloe gel on it to ease the itchiness. That did the trick and he healed up really well. We still have problems occasionally, but if I catch it before it gets too bad, the aloe puts an end to it quickly.
Is there something your dog really hates the taste of? Hand lotion was another one she suggested...unfortunately mine likes the taste of hand lotion. I could have rubbed certain types of vegetables on my dog, and I bet he would have quit chewing though...any kind of fish oil supplement too Just try to think of something in the way of food, or anything for that matter, that your dog doesn't like or you don't think he'll like the taste of. It's gonna be trial and error because dogs like some really strange things sometimes.
Good luck and let us know if you find something that works.
