Life is still crazy around here but I try to make some time for the dogs, other then walk or playing ball or just plain basic stuff of daily life.
So today I toss a ball in the hay field and got the dogs later to find that ball. Harley found some work gloves, some guy wallet (has been return to owner) and his ball. That was a nice 30 min work out for him.
Today I worked both dogs together on position changes.
Also did some individual recall.
I got Harley to jumps and run a few tunnels.
And I used a big metal drum as an object for Harley to practice position changes. He does not like to sit or down when he is on some high stuff. The drum is too small for him to down comfortably but he did some nice sit. It was the first time I asked him to hop on the drum.
Nosework is always a good option on a cold a rainy day.
Today I placed a target in my brush bucket, at the bottom of it and under the mounting block. A second one in a student tall boots in the tack room. The last one was thrown in an empty box stall with the door close.
The first 2 were no problem for Harley. The one in the box, did puzzle him. He tried to get over the door but the bars are in his way, he tried to dig under the door. In a final frustration burst he barked at the door then decided to lay down with his nose as far under the door as he could go while barking and scratching.
I could not argue that the target was behind the door.
Working on getting ob really solid. Did ob in the front yard on a drag line for the first time, working on heeling, sit/down in motion, right to front to left heeling positions, and working on a cleaner out. Distraction was husband cleaning the truck, Duke did really well
I also am getting serious about Rally and Obedience and also nose work.
Today was game day so we didn't train. We played some nose work searching games, and then a puzzle that hides treats. The dogs had to take turns, which is hard for them , but it builds self control.
Mondays we go to rally class. Tues Terra goes to nose work.
I am working on my skills for rally. we are practicing excellent signs now. Bindi still loves rally and we plan on getting into some matches, and trials. I am still ill, but it looks like the end of this illness is near. I may be having surgery soon. Can hardly wait to get back into more training with my pups.
Looking forward to hearing what all of you are doing with your dogs. lOve sharon and her pups Bindi, cody, Terra.
Did Nose Work again with Trooper. He already knew the actual searching for food in the boxes. Still working on getting him to connect the target scent with an indication from him. Crazy, excitable drive, little ability to calm down and focus at the target box, perpetual motion and super handler soft are driving me bat $#!+ crazy!.
