Hi, last time I weighed him (around 7-8 months) he was 85#. Since he was already way too heavy for his age I was worried for his joints and put him on a 'diet' (2# of raw a day plus treats).
I don't see his ribs but I do see his hips and I thought that was a sign of dangerously skinny.
Or these are not the hips people are talking about?
You see how from his waist you can see the 2 angles
Thank you
The pics are not the best, couldn't get him to stand in place, he always wants to sit because that's what he thinks I want

Just judging from these PIX alone, he looks fine to me -- I don't know the guidelines for a GSD specifically, but with a young/growing Akita, the "rule of thumb" is being able to easily FEEL the ribs but NOT really see them ... Also, your Breeder & Vet should be able to give you good hands-on advice about keeping him at a proper Lean Weight to protect his health
I know he's oversized and he's extremely heavy (like the feel of him, heavy boned I guess).
When he runs fast I'm afraid he will hurt himself so i'd like to keep him as thin as possible without him being too skinny.
