Put together a video of of what I've done with contest training with Kenzi so far. I think she likes it
I did miss a couple days of recording training sessions due to dead batteries in my camera so there is a bit of a jump in training between the first 3 clips and the last 2.
First steps in object identification training
Comments, suggestions, constructive critique etc are welcome

Nice recap! I like the length of the clips, too.
I might have put more space between Quack and the one other toy, back when you first introduced the first "non-Quack" to the mix, then just gradually close that space. Kenzi didn't need that, but I think my non-BC dogs would do better with that added clarity.
I might have rewarded closer to Quack in the first clip, too ... again, for my dogs.
Very very nice!

Nice work. Is it your goal to teach her the names of multiple objects and have her retrieve whichever item you ask for? (Forgive me if you stated this in another thread).
In the naming phase, she went for the item (anticipated) before you gave the command. I can see where that's okay in the way you shaped it. Do you phase that out and make her wait for the command after you've named the behavior?

Connie - now that you mention it, I think Kenzi really would have benefited from more space between objects in the 3rd clip, too. Probably would have eliminated at least some of the confusion she shows. Duane - yes that's the end goal!

Oops - missed the second part of your post, Duane. Yes, the anticipation will be phased out. She will need to wait for the command so she can select the object I ask for.

Ditto with Connie!
We always talk a bout time, distance, distraction. In this instance you want further distance because the distraction (second item) is to close.
Also as per Connie, you want to treat AT the intended item so the dog will know to stay there and not leave it for the reward.
This is similar to what I'm doing with Trooper but I'll probably put a "down" indication at the intended article since he's such a squirrel.

Thanks for the input!
This brings up another question for me - I was rewarding because it was allowing me to get more reps in. i.e. She targets, I mark, she comes to me for reward and then repeat and we got multiple high energy reps in a short time. So if I reward at the object, what would be a good way to get multiple reps? Or don't worry about multiple reps?

Hey, no border collies, that's cheating!
Seriously though, great job so far! My goal is similar but without the retrieve, as Carlin doesn't know that yet.
Now for a question:
Also as per Connie, you want to treat AT the intended item so the dog will know to stay there and not leave it for the reward.
What would be the best way to accomplish this considering the mark is a release? Just stand closer to the object during the teaching phase?
