We (our training club) have an annual potluck between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The host roasts a turkey and the rest of us supply all the sides.
Anyone here have an old (or new) family (or not) recipe for a great side dish? I've pretty much run through the upgraded corn casserole and green bean casserole.
I'm not a great fan but the wife, kids and now grandkids are nuts over something they call yellow potatoes. It's simply potatoes prepared in some sort of cheese sauce and baked in the oven.
I still love the sweet potatoes baked in brown sugar or honey. Same with strips of bacon dipped both sides in brown sugar then baked.
This Thanksgiving will be at my BIL's house on Turkey day. My house for just my wife, kids and grand kids on Friday and my sister's house for my bros, sisters and their families on Saturday. Pretty much the same for Christmas.
Christmas day here at my house for the wife's family. Day after for the wife, kids and grand kids and the Saturday after at another sister's house for my bros and sisters and their immediate families.
We started doing that when mom and dad passed. Being one of seven kids it became a pia for everyone to get together because of going to spouses parents and still getting together with our own family.
My dad was one of 16 and holidays there was a revolving door. the table was busy all day long.
