This made me LOL. But I do have one who spins several times before settling in to do his business. I thought maybe I would start to observe if he's aligned north/south, but then how would I know if the magnetic field is stable or unstable?
Now maybe someone will do a study to find out why dogs have to sniff around so much to find the spot that smells just right for the job.
I don’t know about magnetic alignment, but my lot will often synchronise pooing, the Pointers back to back, for privacy and modesty, and the Boerboels either side by side, or facing each other - probably because each one wants to be first back through the door to get the best sofa, so by watching each other, they can gauge how much time they have to nip it of!
Of course I have no reliable scientific data to back up my theories
One of mine is a walker, spinner and a stomper before, during and after.
The other rarely misses a 2'x2' area in the yard and wouldn't step on it to save his life.
Both must be directionally challenged because they face whatever direction suits their mood of the momement.
Myself, having spent a great amount of time in the woods, don't recall any magnets pulling me one way or the other.
I take Ambi out to the same spot pretty much at the same time every morning and she does spin and faces different direction each time. Interestingly when she poops on our walk there is no spinning at all. I always thought the spinning was just trying to get comfortable.
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
