That blew my mind the first time I saw that. Beagles aren't the brightest bulbs in the room so I figured this dog went through a lot of try and fail before he got it right.
Well, it's at least partly staged. If you are away at work, why would there be chicken nuggets in a hot oven? I get that the dog would hear the bell and recognize it, but who set the timer?
I agree that the hidden camera with the chicken nuggets in the oven is a set-up. I know my toaster oven gets quite hot, and I wouldn't want my dog's paws or nose anywhere near it if it was actually turned on, so I'm hoping that's not what they did.
Still, I am just blown away by this dog's ingenuity. He is quite the problem-solver!
Plus, if you know the dog can do this then why are the chairs still set around the table. You would THINK that they would be either on top the table or in another room.
Whether it's a set up or not it's still pretty incredible and fun to watch.
I am reminded of a whole series of videos I watched at a vet conference of dogs who had learned to open the refrigerator.
The message was to never leave a dog alone in the kitchen with a dishrag looped thru the refrigerator door.
All sorts of breeds were represented. Even a SALUKI, for heavens sake!
Whether it's a set up or not it's still pretty incredible and fun to watch.
Unless, of course, you had your mouth set for some chicken nuggets when you got out of the shower!
Actually, one thing that this brings to mind is seeing a friend shape and condition a behavior that she thought was cute, only to regret it later. My dog stole food off of the counter once (ONCE). I didn't think it was very funny.
Off on another tangent - I have started to refer to that as the 'counter surfing lottery' because as hard as I try to break it, every once in a while someone leaves the leftover bowl of cereal/crust of bread on a plate on the countertop and Duke wins the lottery! And we start alllll over again.
