Its not often that I try new things, but when I do....
I was at the grocery store looking at what cuts of meat looked nice and inexpensive. Then I saw something that normally I would only buy for Logan...beef heart. Lately I've been trying a wider variety of veggies and experimenting with foods and I had a hunch to just try it. So I bought them...
I chopped them and put them in the crock pot with fresh collards, hot pepper stewed tomoatos, garlic, Himalayan salt, cumin, chilli peppers, beef broth concentrate, a little curry powder and paprika...
ITS REALLY GOOD!!! The only thing I added when I put it in my bowl was raw coconut oil (butter would also do well).
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog. |

Seriously considering walking to your house, just imagining quesadillas....
Im in MA so i doubt i would make it to your house in time.
Now i really wish i had a car..
All i ever get to eat is half cooked or overcooked (worse) chicken. And rice. So much rice. Bags of it.

Every time I buy beef hearts for the dogs, and I'm slicing them up, I think to myself, "this is really lovely meat--I bet it would be delicious." But I've never been brave enough to try it.

I am reminded of my nephew. When he was a little boy and would come to our house to visit, he would always ask if he could have a dog biscuit. I have no idea why. But I said if it was okay with his mom, it was okay with me. After all, there was nothing in it that was going to hurt him. So he did indeed get to enjoy a dog biscuit or two when he came to visit.

Both beef and pork heart are good with a very particular muscle texture to them. As I recall anyhow, dad fed us an awful lot of different animal tongue/hearts.

Your dad was smart to feed you that! Good food!

We used to have tongue. It looked repulsive. My dad would peel it, I think they fixed it boiled. They would peel off the outer layer with taste buds etc. It was served with raisin sauce, something like raisins boiled in water, and mustard.
Actually, it was pretty good. Looked frightful on the platter, though.

My neighbor who is from Tunisia, cooked a lamb's head one day and invited me to eat. It was awesome...esp the tongue.
Kristin, beef heart fibers are finer then the muscle meat, it was surprisingly tender.
