My name is Angela and I've been a leerburg fan for some time. Used the puppy obedience training back when it was VHS with my beagle at the time.
We just took in a new adult rescue, GSD, neutered male who is estimated between 18-24 months old but I'm thinking closer to a full 2 years. We don't know the reason for him being in the shelter but this is at least his third home (including the rescue that pulled him from the city pound which is 5 days and euthanize).
We immediately began with the Establishing Pack Structure program so of course he's currently in the isolation phase. Here's a photo from yesterday right at the 24 hour mark which shows huge breakthrough of him responding to me well when I praised "Good Poddy! Good Poddy!" (We use Poddy instead of Outside because I have five kids who are often sent outside, what with fresh air being better for brains than TV. ;-) )
He immediately came to me, happy for the praise, one paw slightly raised and waited to see if I wanted anything else. He's figuring out the rules about the door as well and I'm seeing other positive signs - no charging out of the crate, going to the crate on command, waiting at the door really well now, etc. He already has basic command knowledge for Sit and Down so that's helpful but we aren't focusing on that except as needed during grooming, moving through the door, etc.
Two days in and he seems to be settling in really well. He's learning his place and seems to have a very willing, very tolerant attitude towards the whole chaos that came be my home sometimes.
Anyway - I just wanted to introduce myself and Sabor. I'm sure I'll have questions as we move through the Pack Structure and then into Basic Obed. LOVE the new video on demand option...brilliant.
Isn't he a pretty boy!?
Thrilled to finally have my dream breed,
Angela <><

Yeah BIG DITTO on keeping his weight the same...big NO to gaining anything. Most pets are fat, and most people see that as the norm...but its not.
LOL! Yep the rescue ppl said - "He really needs to gain about another ten pounds or so" but then they ALSO said, "Just sign up for one of those classes at PetSmart" and I knew that was wrong. ;-)
Glad I'm in the right spot to start this boy out on the right foot with his new life. It STUNS me to think that he was just left on the street that way.

How much do you know about it? (I'm thinking, if you know nothing about it yet, then now is the time to learn the beginner steps).
This board has a lot of marker trainers.
Not a ton - I have been using the Yes verbal cues when he does something right but I haven't bought the marker training DVD yet so that will have to be my next purchase along with Basic. So much to learn!
I'm very open to suggestions. :-)
