Nothing that the dog will want to lay on will be waterproof. More important is something that is sturdy and machine-washable.
I use heavy denim dog bed covers that have a zipper so they can come off and be washed. For stuffing, I use rags. Old t-shirts, old towels, old pieces of fleece clothing --anything will do, as long as it's washable. Then, when the stuffing gets doggy, the rags can be washed and dried and stuffed back into the denim cover.
I have one of the kong brand beds. My pup scratches at it almost every time he lays down. The bed is holding up very well, however its not waterproof. I recently purchased a waterproof bed for when we go backpacking from petland. I poured a cup of water on it and it beads off, and it seems pretty resistant to scratching. I cannot remember the name of the bed. The kong bed is not round, the waterproof one is.
My LORD you would not believe it. I dont.
Reading my local pet Craigslist tonight. (been stalking a local shelter dog that needs a home) and i happened to come across http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/pet/4420364014.html
I wasn't even LOOKING up dog beds!
I feel such conflicting emotions. The beds are CHEAP. And WHY the heck couldn't i have come across them like i don't know 8 weeks ago? When i FIRST started looking up "waterproof dog beds"?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There was a sticking out tag type logo however I remove them before the dogs decide to rip them off. Im tempted to say they are called something with the word "mountain" in it. I will try to find the receipt.
