Figured that I'd start an ongoing thread for our contest training
Did a little work with Kolt on ignoring food and discovered that I was asking for too much, too quick (note to self - don't put the food that he is supposed to ignore in one of the dinner dishes from the get go - duh...) . So I backed off, lowered the distraction and upped the reward. So far so good....

Trooper is still confused when given a "take" command with anything but his kong or a ball.
I've started from scratch as with a new retrieve......but I think hearing my teeth grind is upsetting him.
I did not think it would be so hard to get Duke to drop a toy in a bowl.. but we are making progress on the extended hold and generalizing to other toys.
Chance is doing very well with his sit pretty, by no means shall we slack but it helps that he already has a very strong core.
ETA: I have noted that the secret for these two - feed Duke BEFORE we work so he's not so laser focused on the rewards that he stops thinking - and feed Chance AFTER we work so he actually wants to eat

Patience is the rewarding virtue..........right?
Does he have some Border Collie mixed in somewhere??
That sensitivity is a mixed bag and the one thing that tends to frustrate me with the breed. With Kolt I specifically requested a pup with a pushier temperament to help mitigate the "oh my word, I'm upsetting them" thought process. Kipp was awesome and he could work through stress. Kenzi Loves to train but gets worried easy
I've been dealing with a dead A/C so no training getting done right now. Just trying to keep my boy as comfortable as I can. They're supposed to be back out today at 7am to fix it. So hopefully we can start training tonight.

I totally get that!
It's fortunate that we have built in so much training time.
We're lucky to be having mild fall-like weather (oddly) right now .... but I would do as you are for now and keep yourself and the dog as cool and comfortable as possible if we were having miserably hot weather.
