Just found out today that Hootie's mum, Rosie died on Christmas morning, aged 15 years and 1 month.
She was possibly the sweetest, most even tempered and good natured dog I ever met, and is most certainly where Hoots gets his gentle disposition.
Darling Rosie, I know your mum and dad are beyond broken hearted, they love you so much, as do all of us who knew you.
Sleep tight Rosie Posie, you were such a good and special girl. xxx

No matter how long they're with us, it still hurts when they leave. Godspeed Rosie. Thank you for all the wonderful puppies I'm sure you produced.

There was only one litter Debbie, and all god willing, will turn 12 on 22 May this year
The strange coincidence is Rosie's sister from a subsequent pairing, same dam, different sire, died at exactly the same age as Rosie, 15 years and one month, same cause too, a paralysis during the night of her left side that they couldn't save her from in the morning.
Mercifully, Rosie didn't linger, she was calm and peaceful, and when the vet came out, they asked him to let her go, in her bed in the kitchen, without distress and with dignity.
They still have Archie, who is Hoot's brother, and they took a pup from Bon's breeder in the summer, a little girl called Sassy, who is by all accounts, keeping them smiling, but the pain left behind by their beloved girl still has a hold around their throats.
Time will of course loosen that hold

Wow that is some good genetics Rosie passed on.
It's nice that Rosie could be sent off in her home, surrounded by the people who loved her. The pain must be immense. I know it was when I lost my girl, but you're right, it does get better with time.

I'm sorry to hear that, Tracey. Rosie sounds like she was a great ole' gal. And isn't it good to know that Hootie has longevity in his lines? I like to keep track of my dogs' parents and siblings, as much as possible, because I think it's helpful to know what kinds of genes have been passed on. No guarantees, of course, but every bit of knowledge helps.
Rest in peace, Rosie.

I have kept in regular touch with Hoots, Bon's and the gruesome twosomes breeders, I think pretty much all the owners have, it was really important to me, and to them to keep in touch over the years, great breeders are a fantastic source of information and comfort, they are all lovely people who are dear friends too

So sorry to hear the sad news, Tracey -- Even though Rosie had a long & healthy life, our pain when they must leave us is still unbearable ... Run with love, Joy and PEACE across the Rainbow Bridge, dear old girl.
