Hi
im getting my first pup in 3 weeks.
I readed thousand of posts and I think i got it, but I've some questions
I bought a large refrigerator just for dog food, and gonna prepare a lot of bags with premade food.
1 ) I wanted to start with chicken necks but cant find in any market, I found a great deal on CHICKEN Wings, can I start with them instead ?
2-3 days with chicken wings, then I may try to add Beef.
If I see any sign of diarre I give more bones.
2 ) Food Rewards
Which kind of food I can use as reward ? Im thinking about this summer, food can start to get putrid easily with high temperatures. Any suggestion ? I dont wanna smell bad around :-p I bought meanwhile 5 kilos of essicated green tripe.
3 ) I found a great shop near me, im going to buy tomorrow 60 kilos of green tripe, 60 kg of beef already prepared with 15% of hearth liver etc. Then I ordered already salmon oil and vitamine E in capsule 400ui.
First days just chicken necks till good poop then gonna try to add other stuffs.
Anything wrong ?
thanks

Can you find backs? With a dog that size, chicken wings can become a choking hazard. Not that they can't be used, but they don't have an ideal meat/bone ratio, so I would be adding breast to the meal as well.
Avoid diarrhea at all costs - when I get a puppy I am certain was kibble fed, I fast for 12 hours, then do my first raw meal with a couple of teaspoons of overboiled rice. Probably the first 3 meals, once those are good, I can take out the rice.
I add one protein source at a time and leave at least 7 days before I add another.
Watch the fat content on the chicken and in the beef - too much will result in loose stools.
Food rewards - I will boil, then bake at low temp for several hours, turkey livers. They make a nice training treat and are firm enough to cut into cubes.
Also,if you can find a used fruit dehydrator you can use cubed chicken breast, beef kidney, beef heart, chicken hearts, chicken gizzards etc and dehydrate them into jerkey (do this outside, it will be stinky LOL)
Tripe = perfect!
Is the beef whole carcass, or just meat/fat/liver/heart? If there is no bone, you will need to add calcium to those meals.
A great idea would be to start with the chicken (backs/breast/necks etc). As long as everything is going good, you could then add some beef mixture. Then continue to use the chicken back as your RMB to be fed with the beef. Turkey necks would also make nice RMB's to be fed with the necks.

Probiotics are good - but I wouldn't be too worried right off the bat.
Let's just get the diet settled, then start adding those things
Turkey necks are ok - they can be cleavered down in size to suit a puppy, but they are very bony so make sure to add some muscle meat.
Chicken backs are a no-go then? Sorry to reiterate, they are just the perfect puppy proportions for RMB's, so if at all possible, I would choose them over turkey necks to start.

I'm not a raw feeder , but that seems like a hell of a lot of food to be acquiring before you know how he will react to the diet .
really looking forward to seeing pics of the new pup , Fabio .
I presume he is going to be a bit of an oddity in Italy ?

oh well Ian, there's some rotts but they all with crap owners and are dangerous. In fact all people I know just point me as "crazy" for this choice.
Anyway what would fit as "probiotic" ? Or none of them ?

I'd start the RMBs small (supermarket) until you are sure what and how much you will use.
Don't go by what you see .... ask the butcher. Backs are not usually on display here.
The probiotics are way less important right now than trying raw, probably with a small source, and then establishing your sources.

Raw ground beef with liver added is in my view guaranteed to give your pup the runs.
A pup is an infant, and so you have to start out slowly, introducing new foods a little at a time.
Just like when you were a baby you didn't eat raw vegetables, or oysters, etc. You have to get him accoustomed to these "grown up" foods.
In the days before packaged dog foods folks fed pups things like oatmeal, rice, cooked chicken. Starting with cooked foods is in my view a safer way to begin. Or, if you are feeding raw chicken, start with small portions, no skin, rinse it off well.
There is super nutrition in raw meat but there are dangerous bacteria, too. So you have to start out slowly.
