I'm looking into a few different breeds as possibilities of a new dog in the future. I most likely will not be seriously looking for another 6 months to a year, but I'm trying to do my homework. I figured I could just throw out a few things here, to my friends with a wealth of information.
I was wondering if anyone has had experience with or meet any of these? I like giant schnauzers, Black Russian terriers, or Airedale terriers. The main criteria is that they are working breeds with a reputation of intelligence plus they don't shed. I have a pretty active lifestyle and I love to include my dog in everything I can. So these seemed like good candidates. Not going to lie though, I also feel like there is a slight novelty to these ones as well.
Are there maybe other choices I have over looked that could be a good fit?

My neighbor has had a couple of Airedales now. Really nice dogs - active, quite personable and trainable.

i like giant schnauzers too . it took me a while to find a breeder in my area ( vancouver , bc ) .
they are " giant " , significantly bigger than an airedale , and it could be a challenge finding a breeder raising true working stock .

Airedale for sure, you can find working dales in multiple venues working at a high standard.
The BRT seems to attract scam artist breeders cashing in on exotic & unsubstantiated hype. Heard hips can be a problem as well.
Giants seem another working breed destroyed by the show ring.
The working dale community seem organised and a quality outfit.
As always check the breeder and parents out personally.

I only know pet type airdales.
They are smart, have a lot of energy, and don't bite in the vet clinic. They are well built
deep chested, strong, wiry and athletic. The ones I knew didn't roam and were quite territorial.
The coat required maintenance otherwise they became pretty scruffy looking.

There are some good working Dales here in the States and Europe.
A man named Ed Weiss has Dales that compete in Schutzhund, bird hunting, hunting trials and possibly fur hunting.
In the past I've seen his now retired Schutzhund III dog perform and it did a nice job.
I've been a terrier fan most of my life and if I knew about the working Dales here 12-13 yrs ago I quite possible would have one now.
At one time Dales were very popular in Schutzhund in Europe. they still have an excellent turnout at their nationals over there.

I actually have a pretty good contact for working giants that I feel quite confident in already. I have emailed a few breeders of BRTs but havent got any response yet.
I have always liked dales but never made any inquiry on them until now, and seem to be getting good feed back on that.
what about a Bouviers des Flandres?
