IMO, this isn't tracking (and definitely not "sport" tracking), more of an area search at best - is this your dog?
And for IPO the dogs tattoo must be read, or the dog will be scanned for a microchip - so yes, they must pass the "temperament test" portion of each level/phase and accept touching. I am sure AKC has something similar.
Nothing stopping you from joining a club though! Definitely a lot of fun once you start with more challenging tracks and leaving your own possessions behind (ie keys/cellphone) and trusting your dog enough to find them again
I lost my spare set of car keys, as much as like my dog I won't be throwing my last remaining set into the grass for awhile.
yes my dog.
if it's not tracking what is it?
I get the difference when someone throws an item into an area and there is no connection between the item the path of a person that left it there, that is pure area search. I walked a path and dropped the item along the way, the dog worked the path - how is that not tracking + air scenting the path?
The video was more about trailing and air scenting then tracking.
Of course terminology rears its ugly head here but it definitely wasn't sport tracking as in AKC or IPO.
Teaching a dog to except the inspection from a judge will have no bearing on it's willingness to protect or even to just bite when not under a command.
When teaching my older GSD to stand for exam he didn't like folks hoovering over him.
He learned to except a person not only standing over him but wrapping their arms aruond his chest from above. It took a bit and he never learned to like it but he excepted it.
That was for AKC.
For Schutzhund/IPO many dogs have a registration tattoo in their ear. My dog's is on the inside of his rear leg so I just had him stand on my out streached forearm so the judge could read the tat.
I believe that IPO now excepts micro chip readers which are much less invasive on the dogs personal space.
