Good Morning, been a while since I posted but I'm always lurking
Got a new puppy friday - 10 week old GSD "Jack"
I would like to do some AKC Obedience Competition with him, I did this back in California probably 15/20 years ago but it was all dog classes with yank/crank methods. I also belonged to a dog club then too so we would all get together and train, etc. Nothing like that around here and I'm just confused on how to start now that I'm marking training. I really wish I had a trainer or someone around here to kinda give me the steps on how to start things out, but I don't so next best thing is Leerburg!! I have Michael ellis food video and engagement class with Forrest - Any suggestions? Just seems kinda overwhelming but I know it shouldn't be
Thank you
Your initial keys are going to be engagement and focus, along with introducing the communication system. This video illustrates the initial stages of engagement conditioning, with some shaping and luring of behaviors that will become OB in the future.
Lincoln and Omaha are unfortunately on the other end of the state. But I did see there is a kennel club in a town that's only an hour away. I'm not sure how active it is though doesnt look like there is many members but I'm going to send them an email to check.
