Logan is almost due for his rabies vacc again. He's almost 10yrs old and I've noticed with each rabies vaccination, his skin condition that time of year gets worse each time. After the last rabies shot, he just has gotten so miserable. I just can't do into him again. The vaccine has made him allergic to everything the same time of year it was given... And it gets more severe with each shot.
Its NOT fleas. He scratches the hair off his belly, chest and chews and licks his ankles and feet. I've tried everything. Medicated shampoo, rinsing, epsome salt, probiotics, EFAs, even allergy medication (which wouldn't be a long term solution anyway).
IDK what do do because its required by law. I'm thinking about just finding out what the fine is and setting that money aside and just saying screw it and not getting it. They probably wouldn't enforce it until next year when they enforce the dog license.
I've been mulling this over for some time.

So, don't vaccinate until you have to, by license.
He is a pretty old fella, who knows what will happen in the next year.

Ask your vet if you can get a waiver. Due to Caterina's auto immune issue she gets a waiver for all vaccinations from our vet.
If your vet won't do that check and see if titers are acceptable in lieu of vaccinations.
If you get no for both issues, it's a personal choice, but see what the consequence is for non compliance with rabies - it may more than just a fine.

In NY, perhaps the most everything-regulated state aside from California in the nation, a vet letter suffices to waive the 'rabies vaccination requirement' at licensing time.

Thanks you guys...this is very encouraging. Seems as though some small progress has been made at least with laws.
I think the vet and I need to have a good talk about this. And if she won't write an exemption statement I'll find one who will. I just can't knowingly harm him.
I wish I could afford to put him on an all organic grass fed diet to see if that would help him. There are toxins in the animals feed and also the diet isn't ideal...so that would take some burden off his body via less toxins and healthier fats. I intend to do this. Get him on a consistent diet with all the stuff I have already tried plus organic grass fed.
I've got some Diatomaceous Earth to try. Its cheap and supposed to absorb and remove toxins kind if like the way chlorella does. Toxins create inflammation which I hypothesize makes his allergic reaction more severe.
I work at a health food store now which helps a little. I get a discount and can take home expired kefir, yogurt and other goodies.

Tresa, you might like to "arm yourself" with county statistics on any verified Rabies cases in your local area -- Where I live there has not been a confirmed Rabies case in domestic animals OR wildlife in something like 75 YEARS or more (IIRC) ... The chances of a super well-monitored Family Dog contracting the virus are virtually nil out here, and it could be similar where you live as well If so, that should help a Vet decide to honor your wishes !!!

Once through puppy shots I've done rabies only for the past 12 plus yrs for my dogs.
I got a titer test in order to get into a particular class with one of my GSDs.
Rabies not included because he was up to date.
I'm guessing that titers for rabies is available?

Getting her to state its likely life threatening will be the challenge. But you know if his quality of life gets way worse (which would likely happen) I could be forced to euthanize him...which then means life threatening.
Candi, there have been confirmed cases in my city in the past few years which I will NOT mention.
Bob they won't accept titers as far as I know....I tried that once before.

Oh well, so much for our 1st ideas then
Here's the bottom line for me, Tresa : if any heartless governmental bureaucracy tried to prevent me from doing RIGHT by my own DOG, then I would "fly below their radar & join the underground" -- I won't post my detailed suggestions for doing so here, but I'm sure you can figure out some work-around to avoid the "legal letter" without breaking the Spirit of the Law So I will leave my "subversive" advice at that...
