Encountered 3 different Coyotes from the neighborhood pack at zero:dark:thirty this morning -- One out back, another out front, and a 3rd at the bus stop ... While my dogs were with no problem, but when I was alone on my way to the transit kiosk before dawn it was a bit unnerving to have a BIG male sizing me up !!!
LOL, I told "Wiley" that would be his LAST bad idea, but he took some convincing to go look elsewhere for breakfast -- I actually like Coyotes, but not if they're eyeing me as a meal Luckily, he didn't have any packmates with him !!!
Careful. Every thing likes to take a bite of Candi.
Actually, some poor guy was walking his little "fuzz-ball" in Stern Grove (a secluded park in the middle of a San Francisco residential neighborhood) the other day at 7:AM when an entire pack of Coyotes snatched his leashed lap-dog & did the hapless doggie grievous bodily harm before the man somehow drove them off, called his wife at their nearby home, rushed the tiny beast to an Emergency Vet where they saved its life, and then set up a Go-Fund-Me account to get help with his $15,000 bill !!!
A few folks in MN have been stalked and attacked by coyotes. Fish and Game says to turn around and ask them to back off when you are followed.
Here, the coy/dog crosses cause the most trouble. THey are larger, look more wolfy.
The little jackal type coyotes are never a problem, here anyway.
Three is a spooky number to have about you! Look out if the start whooping!
No, I encountered them ONE at a TIME, the first two when both of my Dobies were with me just outside the house -- It was the 3rd one (again singly) that put the hair up on the back of my neck, because then I was alone with him on my way to the bus stop, and "Wiley" was NOT afraid ... Believe you me, I made myself look & sound as much like BART the BEAR as humanly possible, squaring off & walking straight at him while suggesting that he go home !!! This fellow was bigger than a full grown GSD, but I saw no signs of his being a dog-hybrid (all the mature Coyotes in our neighborhood pack are quite large with very long legs, but not filled out). And we hear them "singing" a LOT
One of the few times I racked a round in my M9 was coming around a corner on Ft. Bliss and winding up 2 ft from a big coyote who wasn't quite sure what she wanted to do with me. She wound up deciding to just head the other direction but I swung wide on corners after that.
Coyotes are not stupid. They figure out that yelling is just noise.
