I can't find any local Malinois Rescue group
Long story short :
My best friend's office-mate wants to get a PET dog to take Jogging with her, so she decided on a Pug but couldn't find one, and now she has picked out a 5 month old MALINOIS at our SPCA here in San Francisco (? WTF?)...
It's a male that was surrendered because the owner has been sentenced to a Long PRISON Term -- Are you already getting my drift ???
The prospective Adopter is totally Inexperienced and has 2 junior highschool daughters in the home (a yardless apartment), may or may not move in with relatives elsewhere, has some on-again-off-again boyfriend, plans to "send the dog away" for training, yada Yada YADA, and the shelter folks think she's a Perfect Match for this almost-teenaged MAL
So far, my friend has NOT been successful in talking her out of it, despite supplying links to MES and Francis Metcalf -- If anyone could PM me a contact # for Malinois Rescue here in the SF Bay Area, I will alert them about this young dog ... Otherwise, I dread to think of its future.

Well obviously this adopter did A LOT of research. Pug's make fantastic jogging buddies (They have this new fangled way of breathing out their butts) and Mals (from questionable backgrounds let alone a responsible breeder) make exceptional family companions for those with less than stable lifestyles and with obviously a LOT of breed knowledge.
(ok, ok, I kid...)
Sad - hope this person reconsider's for the benefit of all involved.
Realistically, I think Mals can do absolutely fine without a yard and with kids in the house, under the supervision of an EXPERIENCED handler (And someone committed to meeting the individual needs of those dogs every day). Which, and this might just be my perception, does not sound like the home that wants to take him on?

Exacto-Mundo

Ditto in Spades
I did my level BEST via email to explain the Needs of this Breed, along with warnings worded as Politely as Possible about worst case scenarios -- But her daughters fell in love with that 5 month old puppy at the shelter, and those K9 welfare workers just want to place him ASAP without one thought to the "failed adoption" outcome that Everyone Else on earth is predicting ... I am Exasperated !!!

Send them a link of the vedeo "so you think you want a high drive working puppy" from leerburg. It shows Cindy's mal in an ex-pen. It's been a while since I've seen it, but I'm guessing it's rush, and he's going super nutso with piles of toys and boxes.

This is a fantastic idea! I would make the subject line something like "Ideas to keep your new puppy entertained while you are sleeping, because he won't be" or "Imagine this only heavier and probably crazier - you guys will have so much fun peeling him off the ceiling all day and putting him back in the pen".
Add a couple wink and smiley emoticons and you are set...oh and exclamation points, people love those.

i'd suggest showing your friend some videos of mondioring , french ring , belgian ring and KNPV to show what these dogs are really all about . if she is not prepared to at the very least find some way to entertain these drives ( not saying she has to do protection work ) then she is not going to be acting in the best interest of the dog , her family , her neighbors , and any other people she will be coming into contact with on a daily basis .
and then take her by the hand back to the shelter to find her a dog that better suits her life circumstances , and her daughters can fall in love with that dog just as easily
oh , and show her this thread lol :
DON'T DO IT !!!! THINK OF THE DOG !!!!

THANKS, Kristin !!! My girlfriend tells me those FOOLS are determined to get the pup TODAY However, I will check out that link & see if they are willing to contact the SPCA in San Francisco with some pro-active advice or action -- This has been so disheartening for me, as they just keep repeating Stupid Stuff about inapplicable crate training (what, for 12 HOURS a day?) and establishing who's alpha...
