OK Im back again. Im going to try to switch Kane to a raw diet... the reason I was reluctant is beasue I run a daycare from home and as it it my freezer and fridge it packed to its fullest, so Im not sure how I will be able to fit it his food. Now I dont want to have to run to the store every day or 2 just for "dog food" (raw) so can anyone tell me around how much I would need to buy say for a weeks worth? Any examples?
Kane is 4 months old, weighs 45 lbs and eats about 3 cups of kibble a day. I really want the best for him so thats why I want to try this, not to mention he doesnt take to digesting kibble too well other than Purina and I dont want him to eat that crap!
Also do I have to add in supplements or is raw ok just as it is? Or can I just supplement once a week or everyday? Poor guy got into the garbage last night when my back was turned at the sink and ate some pizza! Well he got the squirts again! All over the garge floor outside of his crate... I dont know how he manages to back his butt up to the door and get it outside of his crate! But Im going to try to do the raw thing as long as I dont have to go to the store everyday!
Also I forgot to ask if I have to do it gradually or if I can do it cold turkey? I mean the guy will eat garbage so I dont think hell mind but can he adjust ok you think?
I just bought a book on this very subject called Holistic Guide For A Healthy Dog. I picked it up at Border's bookstore, and is loaded with information on feeding a natural diet. My understanding is that all dogs are different and may require different amounts of the supplements etc., so it seems like a process that has to be monitored constantly. I too have given some serious consideration to switching to raw, but it sure seems like an awful lot of work. I personally wanted to educate myself on the matter before making any drastic changes in diet. JMO
I have switched once... he came to me on Purina puppy chow, and a friend of mine suggested Iams. Iams have given him pudding poop... And hes been on it a few weeks aready.
