I have read that a few people recommend you feed your puppy and adult dog only once a day, just as a wolf in the wild might feed. Does anyone have an opinion on this subject?
Besides the comparison to wolves feeding in the wild (which is NOT how i justify my raw feeding preference) - what are some of your reasons for feeding only once a day?
I would think that one huge meal would be more likely to cause problems - bloat, indigestion, etc.?
My puppies get fed when I train them, so the time varies. During the week it is a little more consistent than weekends due to my standard work hours.
I normally do scent pads 3-4 mornings a week for Bil Jac, then sits, downs, focus work, retrieve etc on the other mornings and in the evenings for the chicken necks. When they do really nicely, usually after 3-7 repetitions, I give them the jackpot, which is the bowl, the rest of their necks along with veggies and supplements. On weekends, I often split the training sessions, so they end up getting fed three times.
Sunday nights and sometimes one weekday night are usually rest nights, with some different meats and bones, a sit is good enough to earn the bowl.

I would think that one huge meal would be more likely to cause problems - bloat, indigestion, etc.? Reasons for me- I am active with my dogs. We get up and maybe we track- maybe we swim- hike etc. I do not have the patience to wait 2 hrs. I feed my dogs last thing at night- usually 9ish.
Bloat has been occuring at the same rate for the last 20 years. They still can not say for sure why it happens. First they say raise the bowl, then don't raise the bowl, etc. Dogs still bloat and they have not really made a whole heck of a lot of improvement so far as the survival rate either. There are some vets claiming that less frequent feedings actually strenghten the stomach muscle by allowing it to go from full to empty.
