Do puppies occasionally do the "eat grass and throw up" thing like adult dogs?
Greta has been having fun romping and chewing on grass stalks (as I try to entice her away from them ) and last night she vomited a tiny amount of bile and grass afterwards.
In my adult dog I wouldn't consider this cause for worry but I'm a puppy newbie and just want a little reassurance. Other things- energy, bodily functions, drinking and eating- are still all normal.
Thanks-

Short answer: Yes...
And an Aside: I adopted my 2 rescue Dobies separately, as adults -- I have never seen such grass-eating dogs in my whole life !!! Both of them GRAZE like HORSES But they never vomit afterwards (go figure)...

My four (between 3 and 4 yrs) Love to smell and eat grass without vomiting after. But two of them vomit regularly after having eaten a certain grass. I can well distinguish it from other grasses, but don't know the name. It happens seldom fortunately, but if they do eat this type I know I have to keep an eye on them. An employee of us, who grew up with dogs, said they all eat this type of grass, when they feel a little bit sick. But this is here in Brazil, don't know how it is in your region. In such cases I don't really worry , but it is for me a sign, that I have to observe all other bodily functions well.

I had a Border terrier that you would swear was a cow the way he wandered around the yard grazing.

But there are a few characteristics which might help you to distinguish dog and cow. Did he have horns, an udder and produce a cow's sounds?

If it was a "he," I'm sure there was no udder! Sorry, Christina, I'm just having a little fun with you this morning! I couldn't help myself.

And now back on topic: Carolyn, I don't think what you're observing is anything to worry about. However, you may want to continue what you are doing, that is, trying to entice her away from the grass, as you stated. I would not make too big a deal out of it, but I would try to redirect her to something else, a toy, a bit of play, etc.
For some dogs, eating grass becomes an obsession. That's all right, I guess, if you don't mind and it doesn't make the dog sick. But some dogs will vomit afterwards. I speak from unfortunate experience. I have one who is addicted, has an absolute obsession with eating grass and the dirt it grows in. My younger dog picked up the habit from her. The more I try to correct her for it, the sneakier she gets. Me turning my back for two seconds is all it takes for her to gulp a mouthful. She waits and watches for her chance.
I had to clean my carpets again yesterday. She doesn't vomit every time, but I just never know when she will and when she won't. Bottom line is I would discourage it, but without drawing too much attention to it, which will just make the grass all the more interesting to her. No corrections, but redirection.

Why sorry, Cheri? I love it, when someone makes a joke about me. I had a good long laugh! I'm old, you know, and I guess I cannot anymore distinguish an udder from a certain body part of a male.

Scoundrel! Yes of course I can. Until 3. But I think it is more a question of decreasing eyesight. Simply need new glasses.
