It was sad, she was gone 2 weeks at a time for the past 6 months, so the poor thing was crated and someone just let her out 3x's a day for potty. I am glad she decided her trip here to rehome, and I feel the fit would be great, she is young enough to train and has a nice drive.
The mix looks whacky, she has such a terrier head with the heeler body, you guys gotta add me on fb one day so you can see her look. She is white and black, called Domino. Very fitting lol! I hope she loves treats! I am excited to work with her!
On the Jazz note, Jim is tougher than I with him, but he seems to enjoy it. He won't even look at me now, but I am fine with that. I tried, and that's as far as I care to go. Jim can have his dog, I will have mine, and maybe after Jazz see's me with Domino he will try to join in on the fun. If not, his loss!
We just had 4 full days of blizzard here, 135km winds, 20ft drifts and the town declared a state of emergency. We were not hit as hard, being in the bush, so we only had the 20ft bush drifts, and the dog pen was a 4hr job. What a hellish storm! Howling winds since Monday night, today finally down to 60km but frigid, blizzard had -56c, we warmed up to -45 windchill today... Never thought I would ever want spring!

Bob, she is a ball lover which makes me super happy! I miss tossing a ball! I am looking forward to her big time. Will be so nice to have a wagging tail, and a night owl companion for my night owl ways! I hope she has that terrier mouth too! My border was so good at letting me know my shadow was following me, hopefully she has the same bark, would be very convenient for the bear season!
Moms are out of dens now, so we are yard bound for the next month.at least I have plenty of snow to shovel..just no where to put it!

She is a cutie, but a feisty one! She doesn't like Jazz's slinky demeanor, but I plan on keeping them seperated for awhile. I will have to get a prong collar as she has zero leash manners and is very jumpy. But she loves treats and walking, so so far I am enjoying her any suggestions on a prong? I have the slip lead, but would prefer the prong! She is a bit on the fat side, but I will exercise her until she gets her weight to a proper amount. She has the body size of a cattle dog but the hair and face or some sort of terrier.

I haven't used one in yrs but as an old "yank and crank" trainer before my marker training ephany 12-13 yrs ago I think they make more sense then the old "choke" collars.
When used correctly the prong/pinch collar is like power steering.
Keep the collar high, right behind the ears and snug BUT get the foundation training down with markers.

She has great focus, stares right at the face, and listens quite well. She is very eager to please. Such a happy chubby girl!

So happy to hear, that you two already have such a good bond. But - good gracious, bear season?! I'd never dare to go on a walk on"night owl ways"! Do you think a dog, even if it is a big one, can protect you against a bear? Shudder, shudder. Take care!

Do you know if she has ever had much leash-walking previously? Did her previous owner ever try to teach leash manners? If I got a new dog and no one had previously spent much or any time training her, I would not go straight to a prong as my first choice. It sounds like she is very food-motivated and handler-focused, which should make it easy to try a more positive reinforcement-based approach first. I am not opposed to prong collars. I've used them on my dogs when necessary. But I would give this new little girl a fair chance at learning what you want from her. She's living a very different life now, and everything is new to her.
Good luck to you, Becky. I know how much you want to have that special bond with a dog. One day at a time, nice and easy, plenty of patience.

Christina, I would never expect a dog to take a bear on, tho I would appreciate a bit of warning if it did notice one
Bears are not feared by me, I respect therm and am a noisy person do they can respect my yard! Tho I am sure spunky Domino would sure let me know if she heard something.
Her prev owner did nothing but let her out, walk her to the post office loose once a day, and than crated her.
The prong was more so for her spazzing when Jim let's Jazz out. Jazz has a nervous posture, and dogs don't like it. She shows it more than other dogs, most others avoid him.
