On August 4th, Leerburg said goodbye to one of our own. Vasco vom Leerburg II - call name CJ was the last of our stud dogs.
CJ was a special kind of guy - he always had a hug for anyone that needed it, or he would do something goofy if anyone needed a laugh. He spent the week days in the office with all of us, but Paul and I were lucky to have him on the nights and weekends.
CJ was 14 when he passed - we just celebrated his birthday in May with a giant party and pupcakes just for him.
The last male GSD to steal my heart was my first dog, my first love, my Sam. CJ stole my heart when I wasn't looking, and he took a giant piece of it with him when he left us.
I am just now coming to grips with losing my Caterina, and Tyra - CJ's loss has thrown me into a tailspin....
Goodbye, Bubs. Give the girls kisses for me and tell them I miss them. They will show you around if you are scared. We will meet again - save me a snuggle, OK?
Loves you always, and forever....
I'm so sorry for everyone there, the loss of your friend and constant companion must hurt like hell, I think when you've had a lot of years with a familiar face, you just expect to see them every day,.
Rest peacefully CJ, a long and happy life has ended here, but you will be reunited at the Bridge with all who loved you one day.
I'm so sorry Kelly! This must be very hard for you. You had already enough other sorrows and now this! I know you're a person who always tries to think in a positive manner within any grief and so you'll be able to cope with this too. CJ has had a wonderful life, this is what counts.
Do you remember, I once asked what CJ means? I didn't know it was the name of a dog, I thought it was some internet slang. In between I know there's a personality behind those two letters. Yes, like Cheri writes: Run free CJ!

Was CJ a pup out of kevin's dog? For some reason that sticking in my mind.
Yes, CJ was a pup from Kevin Sheldahl's patrol dog (also named CJ) out of Elly (who Bernhard Flinks imported for Ed). Here is his webpage: http://leerburg.com/cj2.htm
I watched your website too, Kelly. What a wonderful dog CJ was and in another way still is. Beautiful also together with the other dogs and Ed and his horse.
I also love your picture where he's shown together with Paul. (?, I guess it is him).
