According to this article I just read, United Airlines has implemented new rules regarding dog -- and cat -- breeds that will not be permitted to fly. They claim this is all in the interest of the health of the animals. Now, I can understand the concern over the health issues of the brachycephalic breeds. Those dogs and cats bred to have flatter faces do tend to have more than their share of breathing difficulties. But I'm confused over their banning of what they term "strong-jawed" breeds, including pit bulls and similar types -- and the Belgian Malinois! Huh? What do you guys think?

What an infuriating and insane directive ... new CARGO HOLD rules in effect because of a dog who died in an overhead compartment ... and may I add that the airline personnel AND the dog's owners all had their brains in backwards to allow that to happen to the dog ...
But what does the cargo hold have to do with that poor dog's death? And how'd they ever compile that list?
I would never allow a brachycephalic dog in the cargo hold, and in fact I don't have a lot of faith anymore in the cargo hold for others, either. But what a fish-mash of a directive.
Pathetic way for them to not have to be responsible. Is this the same airline that stuck a pup in the upper storage bin?
I tie wrap and lock my crates when I fly a dog, so they cannot accidently lose them. If they tried that ban here, with Calm Air, our pets would die without proper vet care.
Agree absplutely. Thanks God we don't need to fly with our Pits and the other two.
When we emigrated from Switzerland to Brazil we took our three cats with us. Each one in her own crate. When we went to fetch them on the airport, two of them were put together in the same crate. Nothing happened, they were well used to each other. But they might have been scared or felt uncomfortable, it is a very long flight. In such situations cats pretty well fight and hurt each other.

Well, between THIS BS plus all the Crashes & Near-Misses just in the past couple of WEEKS alone, I'm not in the mood to FLY anywhere anymore, with OR without my Pets
