Here's something interesting!
Ed Frawley says
QUOTE We had a brainstorming meeting Friday and we have plans on redesigning the web board to allow members to create web pages on their dogs --- where they can add photos , videos, certifications, etc etc , that would always be there.
FB has groups but trying to go back and find something that has been on it several months or a year ago is about impossible.
Feel free to talk about it on the board, and if members have ideas on things we should work into the design, we are always open to ideas. END QUOTE
I completely agree about that problem with Facebook.
It would be nice to upload photos and videos directly to the board rather than needing an external link for them.
Somehow make it easier to add a thread to a specific topic- most of the time we tend to just use General Dog Conversation for everything because it’s convenient.
I like not allowing photo posts within the threads, but maybe add another page where people can publicly post them like we do in the Tribute Page- we can call it The Brags Page or something like that.
The search function could also use some improvement, in my humble opinion. I often use google to search the forum instead of the forum's "search" because I get so many hits that aren't relevant to what I'm looking for.
I belong to two other discussion forums relating to non-dog hobbies. Both of them have a Photo Album feature where you can go to a member's profile page and see photos they have posted. There may be the option to post videos, too, though I just haven't looked. Me, personally, I've never posted photos online, but I know it's very popular with people to share like that.
I know discussion forums like this one have long been losing favor to other types of social media, but I don't care for the format of something like FB, where you cannot easily find anything except the most recently posted items. There are no search functions, nothing is grouped according to topic, etc. It's frustrating and time-consuming to try to find anything.
I am in favor of anything that will improve the features of the board here to make it more user-friendly and encourage more people to join and participate. It's not bad the way it is now but could use a few tweaks. There are still some glitches after the last upgrade. But please don't change the basic format!
