I have 2 new pups here. We adopted both of them locally. They are both learning obedience, agility and dryland mushing. Nosework eventually as well. Both are distemper survivors (saved from the brink of death with high doses of vitamin A, D3 and liposomal C) I have deleted my FB account so I will probably be around here more.
Anya 2 yr old Texas Dingo (or maybe cheetah x coyote lol). She is extremely intelligent, has a very high prey drive and I have never seen a dog run so fast with such cornering ability as she does. She is independent but will work for food. She can be pushy but is easy to put in her place. She is doing great with agility and obedience training but in harness she is lazy and her line is usually slack. We are going to try her dragging a tire while running along side our bikes to see if that will encourage her to pull more, if not it's just not her thing.
Ravon 9 month old GSD/Heeler/Border Collie mix (or Tasmanian devil x Anubis ) He is smart and willing to please, has a soft temperament but not a whimp. He is challenging in training at times because he is needy and dependent and finds it difficult to focus on the task rather than on me. Oddly in harness he is my star, stays out front and pulls like a freight train.

Tresa, congratulations on your two new family members. They both sound like a lot of fun, and I'm sure they will be keeping you very busy, in a good way.
I'm curious, did you adopt them together from the same place? In other words, were they known to get along well together before they came to live with you?
It's great to see you on the board again. I hope we'll get plenty of updates on Anya and Ravon!

Cheri, we adopted them from 2 different shelters. Anya was first 6 months prior and when we adopted Ravon we didn't know how they were going to get along since they didn't know each other but we didn't just throw them together either. They were introduced carefully over time and are always supervised. Too bad the shelter didn't tell us about the epidemic of distemper they were having and that he was already sick when we brought him home.

Becky, they are so much fun, both were unwanted, Anya was at a rescue and not adopted because she was so difficult to handle and Ravon was dumped at the shelter 3x before we adopted him.
Bob thanks, glad to be back!

It sounds like these are two very lucky dogs to have gotten a home with you. I know you have the necessary dog experience to give them a great life. I was asking because I am down to one dog, and I know I will be down to none before too much longer. I hope eventually to have two dogs again, but I'm really worried about finding two that will get along together. The whole process of slowly introducing a new dog to an existing pack (even if that's only one dog) is something I'll probably start another thread about when the time comes. (And I know there are LB videos and articles and archives here on the board about that, which I will certainly review.)

Hello Cheri,
I know you're a LONG way from California, and didn't know IF you might be interested in Rescuing a Doberman (or eventually 2 like we always do), but thought maybe you'd like to look up Doberman Pinscher Rescue online (dobies and little paws) in Fillmore, CA -- They're the GREAT group where we've adopted all our Dobes over the years...
They put out a wonderful newsletter quarterly & may list adoptable dogs on Pet Finder as well, also transporting them to new homes via Pilots for Paws in good weather months -- If you contact their director, Ardis Braun, she will recognize my name as a regular donor ... I would have sent you this post as a PM, but as you know, I'm currently having a LOT of difficulty with that board feature, sorry.
Merry Christmas,
Candi Campbell

Cheri,
My advise would be to match a compatible temperament, nobody knows your dog like you do. When we went to look at the pup he was only 4 months old and leaping up high on the kennel and I though oh this one is perfect! Even though they're pretty compatible I have to step in sometimes when one is taking something too far, usually means Ravon not giving Anya her space. As the pack leader I have to make sure both are treating each other with respect.
Connie there will definitely be updates from time to time. They're so entertaining
