We had to say good-bye to Natasha, more commonly called Tasha, or even just plain Tash. It was time. Her dilated cardiomyopathy had been worsening rapidly, and her strong, courageous heart was failing.
Tasha was a medical miracle. She was diagnosed with DCM when she was six. In Dobermans, life expectancy after diagnosis can range from just a few months to maybe two years. Her cardiologist told us gently that he thought she would be at the lower end of that range. But the combination of drugs she was on for the rest of her life made all the difference in her case, and she would have turned fourteen this coming March.
She was a skinny, scared rescue dog who came to live with us when she was around a year old. I don't have the words to describe what a beautiful, loving, affectionate, smart, funny, sensitive, and empathetic dog she turned into. Having lost Logan last October, my house is now unbearably empty and quiet.

Oh, Cheri, my heart aches for you.
What a huge loss. But also, thank goodness you were there for her when she needed you so much ... when she was a skinny young rescue, and all the times from then to now, and this difficult time too.
As Bob Scott has said, they're worth every tear.

My Dear Family of Leerburg Friends,
Cheri and I have been talking to each other via personal emails about Tasha's passing, and I just want to take this opportunity to share what all of you have meant to me over the years -- Thank you, everyone, for being so very generous with your knowledge and LOVE of dogs, and horses, and birds, and cats, And Rats, and "all God's creatures great & small" with the rest of us ... We are 'animal people' and through our relationships with Them, we learn many of the most important heart-lessons on how to be better Humans.
Extra-Special Hugs to All Y'All,
Candi, Adobe, Adonis & Bowie
P.S. I always find films to be therapeutic, perhaps particularly in times of heartache, so please let me recommend the Netflix Original presentation of, "The Little Prince", which many of us read in high school French class -- I re-discovered this story tonight while searching for a movie to stream ... It is uncannily Fitting for anyone who has just had to bid a Beloved pet Farewell.

Cheri, so sad to hear about Natasha. She knew what a great life she had with you. That's the great thing about our dog family. I do believe they understand what we do for and with them. It's the same reason we keep doing it again and again. We get back what we give to them and we continue to keep doing it. In the end the reward of living with them is so much greater then the loss.

So very true.

I cried throughout the film, quite Cathartic really -- So much reiteration of what most all of us believe about helping our Canine Companions over The Bridge ... I had forgotten nearly everything about the story since reading it in the original French as a freshman in high school, that I was simply bowled over by its Immediate Relevancy to what so many here have been Facing Recently with our Beloved Dogs who mean everything to us.

I found two on Netflix, and I'm thinking that the 2015 version is the one you mean.
I have set a reminder for tonight. THANK YOU!

Yes, the 2016 Original Netflix version, starring Jeff Bridges et al and directed by Mark Osbourne -- I believe you'll really appreciate the film, Connie.
