Hi all, I skimmed thru passed topics to see if this was already covered but there is too many.
I was hoping you all could help me on this problem....
When I reward my dog with his kong/jute he continuessly chews it. How can I get him to just hold it in his mouth. When he does this chewing, he sometimes drops it, throwing it several feet away, making his training that much harder. Any suggestions?
Thank You, Brandi
Hi Brandi, I recently received Ed's DVD,"Training Drive, Grip and Focus" with Berhard Flinks. This issue is discussed, and I found it very helpful. My dog chewed on anticipation of the out. Bernhard's method of taking the dog into your arms works well. You should order it and watch it yourself. I enjoy watching it over and over. Good luck. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Yep... and again, I am going to say, get the tape. No one can tell you in a post on a bulliten board how to fix a problem they can't see. The tape gives many reasons why this happens, how it starts, and how to work on fixing it. If you understand what is causing it, you will have a lot less trouble fixing it.
We really aren't trying to keep a secret, but the tape is worth the money.
Drew in this instance you are using the toy to help shape behavior in training and perhapse the foundations of bite work, and you don't want a chewy grip in bite work so you don't want the dog to chew on the toy. You also don't want the dog to chew on the toy and drop it all over the place during obedience.
