I have a 7 month old GSD from proven Schutzhund lines. He will chase anything that moves, but when we start training like the video shows he does good if we are by ourselves and there are no distractions. The minute there is a minor diatraction (other people or dogs) he would rather run off and play and has no more interest in the ball. He is very social and wants to paly with everyone who is around. Can I get is drive up for Schutzhund or should I get another dog? If I can build his drive is there anything else I should do besides what is in the video and only training without distractions. Thanks
At seven months old, I'd be surprised if *any* dog at that age wasn't easily distracted during training. Most working breed puppies aren't very mature at seven months old, so working on concentration and focus is a big task.
I'm not seeing that you have a big problem here, let your puppy mature so that he is mentally capable of the work. Do your training in drive and play, keep your work sessions short ( like 5 mins. max. ) and let him grow up.
Good luck!
