Any ideas out there for getting AKC papers for a puppy (now 13 months old) paid for and delivered at 8 weeks? AKC offers little help; referred me to State's Attorney to which I filed a complaint(almost 2 months and no action yet). Breeder was highly recommended when I inquired about the litter but now seems to be making many people mad(me included). Does anyone know of a LEGAL way to force him to send me papers on this dog? Both sire & dam are AKC/DKK or AKC/LOSH registered (imports, but have been bred here before). I have invested alot of effort in this dog and he is really promising so I don't want to give up. I am in Florida and the breeder is in California so I can't drive out there and maim him.
Any ideas, guys and girls? I'm really frustrated.

It's easy to get an ILP number and then you can participate in all the working events/trials except for conformation. Just neuter your boy, take some pictures, send the money, and there ya go.
Maybe they don't want to give you the paperwork because they feel something is wrong with him and don't want him credited to their line? Otherwise, if they registered the litter already, it makes no sense not to give you the paperwork.

Nothing about this man makes any sense. I gave up trying to understand him. I JUST WANT MY PAPERS. This puppy was the pick male. He is very promising - bitework, tracking and obedience. The only thing wrong with him is that he is not registered so I can do the things I bought him for - title and breed survey. I've written, called, emailed, whined, threatened, begged....I just want to know if anyone knows anything I can do legally.

If you paid for the dog with a credit card, contact the credit card company. The credit card company may be able to help. They are ususally pretty good in helping make sure you receive (the akc papers) what you paid for.

The AKC is not always that efficient in my experience..but I agree that you should have your papers.
Have you confirmed iwth AKC that the litter application was filed? Is the dog dual registered? Have you contacted USA to see if there is a litter registration there? Can you contact the club this person trains in and ask tactfully for another way to contact him because your paperwork has possibly been "lost in transit"?? Is the dog tatooed? Maybe contact the breed warden/tatooer who did the tatoos? Last choice, yellow pages, lawyer in his town, or better business bureau...

I know every situation is different. However, I had a tough time getting papers out to people. A couple on this board. Due to problems with the AKC. The pups will be 2 in April. I got them their papers End of December. So the pups were 20 months old at the time.
Was it a pain? YES! For all involved. Did they get them? YES!!!
See, I always assume the best in a situation. I would venture to guess, especially since the dogs are imports there has been a problem with the application at the AKC. Have the dogs previously had a litter registered? You mention they are dual registered with the AKC and their home land. What is the date being registered with the AKC?
Point being, there are several reasons as to why you don't have the papers. Your best bet, IMO is to talk to the breeder. Calmly. Not confrontational, as this won't do anything.
Good luck.

I'm with Todd here - as I was one of his long waiting customers.
But Todd did inform us of what the problem was, and AKC registration for a litter with a sire from Czech Republic is an incredible hassle. But it was worth it, I've got a hell of a dog who now is at last registered.
Open communication with the breeder is the key. Now if the breeder will absolutely *not* communicate with you in your situation , then you're in trouble. If you were confrontation with the breeder in the past, offer to work with them and stay in close touch - an update monthly with the status of the litter's registration process is not asking too much if you've already paid for the puppy in full.
Hope it works out for you, I was a *HAPPY* man the day that I got Fetz's paper's! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Have I mentioned lately on this board how much I love the AKC?
They're doing a bang-up job for the breeds who's pedigrees they hold and the owners and breeders. . .aren't they??
