Hello, Anyone that went to Lackland do you remember two dogs, one was Phantom the other was Oslo not sure on the spelling on their names but they were handler biters and would let you know if you gave an unfair correction. My partner and I were suppose to pick them up for our class but they were at the vets on dog pick up day so we missed them. I saw Oslo later with his new handler and when he told him to sit and gave the correction he came after him.

Yes I to like hard dogs but these two had been to duty stations and came back to Lackland I believe when their handlers reenlisted and this is not the type of dog that an inexperienced handler needs but they would diffently keep you on your toes either trying to keep from getting bit or hanging them out after they bit you.But then after the dog I had at school was not so bad to bite but she did chew up the handler before me, I think he caused the bite, I got a nasty one at my duty station he was acting like he was going to kill me till I got in the kennel and got him out for the first walk then it was on Farrow had a handler and the rest of the dogmen were on watch for their time to get bit.

Hello, Yes my Uncle sent me to far off distant lands to be at an unknown site to do guard work with Sentry Dogs, We had some BAD dogs and some not so bad, mine had handlers before me then they rotate out of country. Farrow had not had a handler for a while so to start I just hung out at the kennels for a day then got around his kennel and sat till he calmed down some for a couple days then it was time to get him out, well the lock got stuck and he got aggitated about that,my Sargent called for me to wait, but I told him I got the lock open and was going in ,Farrow let me get the choker on him then during our time together he got 25 bites drawing flowing blood 18 times from various people.

So the dogs that the Military works stay stationed at specific details, and the handlers go to them, thus the dog gets a new handler everytime someone gets a new assigment? Also do several people handle the same dog?

If that is the case, there is half of the problem. You can't call a dog handler aggressive or rank if he is aggressive to complete strangers that are coming into his kennel, nor any other bunch of people that he doesn't know. He may be socially aggressive, domiate, but strangers are not pack members yet.
I don't ask people I don't know to go let my dogs out of the kennels and leash them. With my better dogs they are going to get bit.

Hello ALL the K-9'S we had overseas were not handler aggressive but some would let you know if they did not deserve a correction if it was unjust , but some of them were aggressive if they had handlers most of the younger dogs could be handled by other handlers as long as their full time handler was no where around. My dog would let another handler take him out while I was off duty but they could not try to work him because he would come after them usually they were posting him in the armory during the night. When we got orders to the states we had to detrain our dogs and make them into Patrol dogs for the school because after our Vet tested them they went back to Lackland. My dog finished out his life at Lackland where he passed away of old age at 11 years old, HE Farrow was a great dog and had great charactor also he was BAD.

When I was stationed in Ballykelly Northern Ireland, before I worked Explosives Dogs, I worked and trained Guard Dogs.
In Ballykelly we had fresh trained dogs sent from England, we would test the dogs then match them up with handlers from various locations in Northern Ireland.
Another task we had was retraining problem dogs, i.e. dogs that would bite their handlers. Nine times out of ten the fault was caused by a hard dog being placed with a soft handler, and the dog taking over.
One such dog we had sent back to us from the U.D.R. (Ulster Defence Regiment) was a Large and powerful dog named Titus, I would say he was one of the hardest dogs I came across. His problem was when he was baited on the suit he would knock the baiter off his feet and then guard his catch. He would not come off when called, and if the handler approached he would go for him.
After two weeks of muzzle baiting on the suit we removed the muzzle, after another week of problem free work we sent him back. One week later he was back again after chewing another handler. After this we kept Titus until we could find a decent handler that was not afraid of him.
This was a common problem with multi-handling dogs with inexperienced handlers. Also the hand over period from one handler to the next was to short, when I left it was two days. This is no way long enough for hard dogs.
