Hello, my 5 months old Malinois started to shed like crazy, is there any supplement I can give him to minimize the shedding, I'm already vaccuming and brushing him everyday, but it seems like the more I brush him the more hair comes out, I probably could brush him for half an hour and he still won't stop shedding.

Thanks. I feed my shepherd a BARF/raw diet with a bit of kibble mixed in. I also give him a dose of Nutro supplement every day. You should be able to look them up on the web. He sheds very, very little. Supposedly Nutro will also give the same effect on a non raw diet as well, but I haven't tried it myself.

When the dog is confused, blame not the dog but shoot the handler.
For such a young pup, suddenly shedding like crazy sounds like a health problem. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Some fungi may cause heavy shedding. I'd ask the vet for laboratory analysis of his fur. If it's something like that, the fur is not regenerating well and, after some time, you can see the skin.
May also be at five months that he is dropping the puppy coat. Supplements and brushing are excellent, but may not fully resolve your problem (thought they should definitely help - especially the brushing) until his adult coat is fully in. Is the hair regrowth coarser than the older coat? If so, this is likely your problem and time will solve it.
