I have a 7 month old GSD. I am having trouble with her moving her head side to side in a sweeping motion on the tracks i am laying. I have been placing the food at the outside edge of my boot prints to encourage the sweeping motion and have had no luck. Also i have tried making light pops on the lead to encourage this but the opposition reflex kicks in and the tracking picture gets ugly. This dog has never missed a track or a turn she does not quarter unless i give too much tension on the leash. When i just let her do her thing she is fast and sure 100% of the time but she does not hit every footstep and it is not side to side. What can i do? How will this effect points in a competition? Maybe my steps are to far apart? (They are about 18" apart) Also my tracks have not been over 30 yards at each leg and i have had only 2 legs max. I hope this is enough info to get some feedback!!
Well I'm not a expert but my dog was doing the same thing untill I started making my steps in a straight in a line - - - - - - then after a couple of times she started going side to side. This worked for my GSD but like I said I'm not a expert. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
